So I came across this story a bit ago and it sent me down the rabbit hole. Apparently they are trying to identify the photographer behind these pics. CBS news story here
Anyway, this pic of Jerry Garcia and the Dead having a free concert caught my eye. Notice the very distinctive shirts the band members are wearing.
Now, so far the only image they have of the photographer is a reflection in the window seen below
So anyway, I’m just randomly looking around Instagram and I come across this
LINK
In the link you’ll see the band all wearing the same clothing and a photographer in the approximate position as the guy would have been in taking the pic. His general style of dress matches the image in the reflection.. there is also a second and third photographer in the pics as well.
Thoughts?

I don't see a photographer in the instagram pic, and I don't think that that pic's field of view is in the approximate position as the guy would have been in taking the pic.
eta: I see now that there are multiple pics in the insta link if you scroll right.

You have to scroll through the pics in the bundle. Second pic, far right, standing up

ahh gotcha, sorry, I didn't see that there were multiple pics.
It kind of looks like the person who took the pics was pretty much front row stage left, and the guy in the insta pic is further back and to the center. Look where everyone in the crowd's heads are facing. That's not to say that the guy couldn't have walked closer and to stage left though. but it also looks to me like the guy in the reflection has significantly longer hair on the sides of his head than the guy in the crowd shot taking the photo.
Cool find though. Great pics.

Cool find, that has to be the photographer in the crowd shot. Profile looks similar to the window shot as well

The jacket and pants fit the window image really well.

All I can think is man, what a time to have been alive. I’d take that over 2025 any day.

I didn’t read the article but I will.
Is the question at hand just the identity of the photographer?

Them hippies smelled and the girls had big bushes and bad hygiene in their cooters.

I've got a good friend who may be able to get a lead on the photographer. My buddy Steve moved to Oregon and was befriended by Ken Babbs who was best friends with Ken Keasey and an Original Merry Prankster. Ken has taken Steve under his wing and teaching him about herbal horticulture and psilocybin chemistry.
Ken is pushing 90 yrs old and his mind is still sharp as a tack. I'll report back what I find out.

Yes. Apparently the rolls of film were left in a storage unit that was abandoned. A picker bought the unit and sold the film to a collector. After it changed hands a few times, the guy who possesses them now decided to develop some of the film. That’s when he realized he had thousands of never before seen images of 1960’s San Francisco taken by a very good photographer. The mystery is who is the photographer and why did he abandon the film. There’s approximately 70 rolls still left to be developed.

Dead center, focus on the middle oval shape on the window. Enlarge it just a bit and you’ll see a figure wearing a heavy jacket, pants and holding a camera to his face. May or may not being wearing a bowler hat or a knit hat
He’s standing behind the Volkswagen Beetle at the front of the car
