2025 GOP = 1995 Dem Party

It’s not even debatable in the context of fiscal & monetary policy.
Show me how I’m missing something.

EVERYTHING has shifted so far to the left, this equation isn't far off if at all..
Posted on 5/23/25 at 12:58 pm to LSUcam7
The democrats have never been in favor of any of those, especially in 1995

I wonder what caused the Reps lurch left?

More populist but socially and fiscally I would say yes.

Wrong. Dems have been doing this since post ww2 expanding the govt and spending.

Say it here all the time because it's true: Democrats run to socialism, Republicans walk there. Make no mistake, they are both headed to the same place.

Just compare Trump's 2024 campaign platform to Clinton's 1992 one. They are almost identical. Clinton even proposed a version of DOGE to increase government efficiency.
Trump's platform has immigration much more on the forefront as it is a bigger problem than it was back then, but the general position of the two platforms is basically the same.

Eh, political pendulums. When things swing back the other way one day, the right will go faster than the left. When it swings back left again, the left will go faster than the right. But yes, as the current swing is going towards socialism, the left is moving at a lightning pace and the righ is still moving, slowly, in that direction. What used to be the left has firmly become center-right.

Today, it wants limited government when it’s convenient, but it’s more than willing to use government to enforce its view of social order and morality, including the ignoring of Constitutional
and statutory safeguards, not to mention institutional norms…

other than tax policy, every single major domestic issue has moved in the liberal/progressive direction in my lifetime (since 1960)
every. single. one.
which is why the fear that the MAGA movement will somehow establish a rightwing Handmaid’s Tale style regime is laughably stupid
the US is far closer to a leftist Soviet style totalitarianism than it is to a Christian theocracy

Not bombing everyone, fair trade over free trade, and believing the best people should be rewarded without regard to skin color were all left positions 25 years ago.
Opposing warrantless surveillance was a left position as recently as 2008.

Fiscally, there is absolutely no difference between the Democrats and the 2025 Republican Party.
Never thought I’d see the day so-called, “Republicans,” would be applauding and demanding big, wasteful government spending and adding more debt while seething and foaming at the mouth to attack Conservatives (real ones) who won’t support it.
But, here we are.
shite, 2 months ago, they wanted the waste that DOGE found permanently cut and codified. Today, they want them it all fully funded, again.
Bizarre.

So he’s in favor of more taxes as a conservative then? Makes a lot of sense …

Per ChatGPT:
Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign platform focused on centrist policies aimed at revitalizing the U.S. economy, reforming welfare, and modernizing government. His platform, often associated with the “New Democrat” philosophy, included the following key points:
### 1. **Economic Renewal**
* **"Putting People First" Agenda**: The central theme of Clinton's campaign, emphasizing investment in education, job training, and infrastructure.
* **Middle-Class Tax Relief**: Proposed targeted tax cuts for the middle class while increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans.
* **Deficit Reduction**: Promised to reduce the federal deficit through a combination of spending cuts and increased revenue.
* **Support for Small Business**: Advocated for easier access to capital and reduced regulations for small businesses.
### 2. **Welfare and Health Care Reform**
* **End Welfare as We Know It**: Supported requiring work in exchange for welfare benefits and emphasized job training and child care support for recipients.
* **National Health Care Plan**: Pushed for universal health care coverage, although details were more fully developed after the election.
### 3. **Education and Workforce Development**
* **Invest in Education**: Called for increased federal support for public education and proposed national standards.
* **College Aid Expansion**: Advocated for a national service program (which became AmeriCorps) allowing students to earn college tuition through community service.
### 4. **Crime and Public Safety**
* **Community Policing**: Supported federal funding to put more police officers on the streets.
* **Gun Control**: Endorsed the Brady Bill, which mandated background checks and waiting periods for gun purchases.
### 5. **Government Reform**
* **Reinvent Government**: Aimed to make the federal government more efficient and accountable, promoting the idea of a leaner, more responsive bureaucracy.
Clinton’s platform positioned him as a pragmatic, centrist alternative to both the traditional liberal Democratic platform and the incumbent Republican administration of George H.W. Bush, capitalizing on public dissatisfaction with the economy and the status quo.
It is insane how far left the left has gone that this platform is basically seen as fascism now
.
What isn't mentioned here in the school reform is they campaigned on school choice too.

Clinton formed a task force that resulted
In reducing the size/ cost of the federal government long before DOGE was a thing. He was also the first president to
Initiate serious welfare reform, Those things are true regardless of any attempt to ignore history.

The media.
GOP would always get crushed even if just freezing spending for a single year let alone actual cuts. A reduction in the rate of increase was seen as starving the children. They tired of running against this.
