Divided Supreme Court rejects public religious charter school in Oklahoma

The Supreme Court split 4-4 on whether to approve the nation’s first publicly funded religious charter school on Thursday, leaving intact a lower ruling that voided the Oklahoma school’s contract.
“The judgment is affirmed by an equally divided court,” the court wrote in its one-sentence, unsigned opinion.
Only eight justices sat for the case since Justice Amy Coney Barrett recused.
The decision lets stand a ruling from the Oklahoma Supreme Court rejecting the bid to establish St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School, which spurred a major constitutional battle over the role of religion in state-funded education. LINK

When are we going to get a ruling on the role of education in state funded education?

So, why did one of them recuse? It feels like these frickers recuse when they shouldn't, and never do when they should.

I think they got it right. Separation of church and state.
If you allow a Catholic charter school funded by taxpayers, then that opens the door for taxpayer funded Muslim public schools too. Do you want your tax money funding that?

With the exception of abortion, has she voted with conservatives on any issue? Seriously, why did the left hate her nomination so much?

She's friends with the plaintiff and godmother to one of her kids. Do we really want people to rule on cases with that kind of conflict of interest? You want KBJ ruling on cases where she's the auntie of the plaintiff?

Pretty much... unless she had close family ties or business ties to this case, she should not have recused... My bet is she did this to keep from having to vote "No"...

I have a hard time understanding how four Supreme Court justices would have voted in favor of establishing a Catholic government school.

My, what a convenient coincidence.

How fricking convenient.
You can bet your arse none of the three witches would have recused.

Yeah I agree. I like the concept but it would definitely open up a can of worms for nefarious shite in the future. Best to keep these separated

What kind of ruling are you looking for, exactly?

I mean just take the melting and hypocrisy over stories like this

And apply it to a public school of TST

We could start with requiring teaching kids how to detect rhetoric from a literal request.

More than you think. I asked that in AI a couple of weeks ago and was surprised that she votes with the conservatives the vast majority of the time. There have been a couple of high-profile cases that I think warrant criticism for sure, but I think she is far from a liberal Justice at this point.
