Yes, the claim is true. GasBuddy projects gas prices for Memorial Day 2025 at $3.08 per gallon, the lowest since 2021 and, when adjusted for inflation, the lowest since 2003 (excluding 2020's pandemic-driven lows). Increased oil production and lower crude prices are key factors.

Where the frick is this?
I've voted for Trump three times now, but gas where I live outside of San Antonio is a dollar more than it was in 2020.

That's a lot of adjustment going on there.
Excluding a whole arse year AND "adjusting for inflation" to get to the point of a projected outcome and future date.
My gas went up a smidge this past week or so.

CNN reported that lower gas prices signals recession and global warming.

The average gas price in the United States over the last 20 years (2005–2025)Based on available data, here is a year-by-year breakdown of the average retail price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, not adjusted for inflation, compiled from reliable sources:
- **2005**: $2.49[](LINK )
- **2006**: $2.83[](LINK )
- **2007**: $3.05[](LINK )
- **2008**: $3.52[](LINK )
- **2009**: $2.68[](LINK )
- **2010**: $3.11[](LINK )
- **2011**: $3.85[](LINK )
- **2012**: $4.09[](LINK )
- **2013**: $3.95[](LINK )
- **2014**: $3.79[](LINK )
- **2015**: $3.28[](LINK )
- **2016**: $2.80[](LINK )
- **2017**: $3.06[](LINK )
- **2018**: $3.51[](LINK )
- **2019**: $3.58[](LINK )
- **2020**: $3.04[](LINK )
- **2021**: $3.98[](LINK )
- **2022**: $5.28[](LINK )
- **2023**: $4.78[](LINK )
- **2024**: $3.30[](LINK /)
To calculate the average gas price over these 20 years, we sum the annual averages and divide by the number of years:
[
(2.49 + 2.83 + 3.05 + 3.52 + 2.68 + 3.11 + 3.85 + 4.09 + 3.95 + 3.79 + 3.28 + 2.80 + 3.06 + 3.51 + 3.58 + 3.04 + 3.98 + 5.28 + 4.78 + 3.30) / 20
]
[
= 67.97 / 20 = 3.3985
]
The average gas price from 2005 to 2024 is approximately **$3.40 per gallon**.
### Key Observations:
- **Highest Year**: 2022 saw the highest average at $5.28 per gallon, driven by the Russia-Ukraine war and post-COVID demand recovery.[](LINK )
- **Lowest Year**: 2009 had the lowest average at $2.68 per gallon, following the 2008 economic recession.[](LINK )
- **Trends**: Prices peaked in 2008 ($3.52) and 2012 ($4.09) due to high global demand and supply constraints, dipped in 2015–2016 due to falling crude oil prices, and surged again in 2022.[](LINK )
- **Recent Data**: In 2025, the average price as of May is around $3.19 per gallon, down from $3.30 in 2024.[](LINK /)
### Notes:
- These figures are nominal prices and not adjusted for inflation. When adjusted for inflation, 2012 had the highest real price at $4.94 per gallon.[](LINK /)
- Prices vary by state, with California consistently having the highest (e.g., $4.92 in 2025) and states like Mississippi the lowest ($2.66 in 2025).[](LINK /)
- Data sources include the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), AAA, and posts on X, primarily from @stats_feed.[](LINK )

I got gas for $2.50 the other day, which is awesome.
I'd like it to be under $2 though.

why are we excluding when trump tanked the economy in 2020?

Now get diesel down. No reason for on-road diesel to be as expensive as it is. It's the easiest thing to refine. And until diesel comes down, grocery prices aren't coming down.

Eight of those prices are below the 2025 average.
Which kinda kills the whole "lowest in 22 years" claim.
Posted on 5/21/25 at 9:52 pm to beaux duke
Because the price was artificially low due to lockdowns, mandates and overall stupidity.

Are you taking the inflation adjustment into account?

I'm taking the OP's subject line into account as well as the xpost main text.
It made a bold, definitive statement and under delivered in reality.
**if you are tongue in cheek, sorry I didn't catch it.
