Gilgeous-Alexander led the league with 32.7 points per game on 51.9% shooting from the floor and also averaged 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks. The only other player in NBA history to average at least 30 points on 50% shooting, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block per game in a season is Michael Jordan, who did it in 1987-88 and 1990-91 -- the seasons that he won the first two of his five MVPs.

Gilgeous-Alexander, 26, joined an exclusive club by leading the league in scoring for a team that won 60 or more games. This is the 10th instance that has been accomplished in NBA history. The only time that player did not win the MVP was in 1996-97, when Utah's Karl Malone won the honor over Jordan

Did you guys cry this much when MJ was averaging 13.5 free throws per game in the playoffs?

SGA is averaging 9.2 this year.

Best player on the planet and the player most valuable to his team is Jokic.

SGA is incredible too, not saying he's not.

False equivalency, purposeful omission of data with the intent to deceive, supported by a straw man. Even for you this is a disingenuous reach.

SGA was a deserving winner. The MVP award has long been really a POTY award so people making the Most valuable argument have merit by the true definition of an MVP but that’s not what it is and hasn’t been for a very long time.

The problem is that it isn’t this consistently. It flip flops between being a POTY award and being a true MVP.

I could understand being upset if the Nuggets had won like 62 games to the Thunder's 67, but with it being 68 wins vs 50 there's not much of an argument.

When they gave it to Malone over MJ (the only time the scoring leader on the team with the best record didn't win it) the Jazz had 64 wins to the Bulls 69 wins and they were in opposite conferences.

The Thunder picked up 18 more wins in the same conference.

I think SGA has had a great season but people are acting like he’s had some elite season. He’s the shiny new toy everyone is in love with this year with the feel good Thunder.
