Just heard about this ‘ETA’ requirement for travel into the UK. Is this legit? First I’ve heard about it, and first trip to UK. Anyone have experience with it?

It's legit. Just download the app and do it on your phone.

Yeah it’s legit. We filled ours out for our trip in a few weeks. It doesn’t take long.

It's definitely real. It will be linked to your passport. The EU will be requiring the same type of thing next year I think.

It takes only a few mins to fill out form and approval is near instantaneous. Think $10.

Got mine. When I went through lhr customs, I didn't talk to anyone. I scanned my passport and it took my photo and I was on my way to baggage claim.. Quickest trip through customs ever.

It's real. Not difficult to do or figure out. Download UK ETA app.

EU visa will be called ETIAS, and it's been postponed until 2026 at the earliest. Supposed to be one Visa for all of the EU.

But as I recall it won't be needed for visits to Ireland.

That's my understanding, as well, since Ireland is not part of the Schengen Area due to their CTA with the UK.

FYI it’s $22 USD. App is pretty simple to use, but if you have the chip in your passport, it gets fricky when you try to scan it. Just skip that and enter the few data fields manually. It’s quicker and easier. Got my approval within minutes.

I almost got screwed with this a couple of weeks ago. Nowhere did I ever see this requirement mentioned - not by British Airways at time of purchase or in the copious "your trip is coming up soon" emails. NOWHERE, that is, until 5 hours before the flight when we noticed a question about it during check in. We were sure we weren't going to get it in time since it says "takes up to 3 days", but luckily, it approved it almost in real time.

I would contrast this with the switch in the US to Real/Enhanced ID. At times over the past year, it felt as if the entire point of the apparatus of the US government was to make sure you knew you had to switch to it by May 7.
