Growing up in Louisiana, give me your original Star Wars viewing experience.

I know some of y’all are older, some younger…
I grew up on the Westbank of New Orleans, my parents took us to the Joy Drive inn.
I sat on the hood of my dads brand new ‘78 Ford F-150 extended cab and watched. I was 5 in ‘77, I remember the beginning scenes, but grew tired as the night drew on
I became a Star Wars nut by the time Empire came out. My mom took me to see that one at the theater next to Oakwood mall. My older sister was going with us, but she saw some friends and went to to see Airplane instead.
Also to add.
Back before video rental, they would re-release older movies. They did that with Star Wars as I remember seeing it in ‘79 before Empire came out

I honestly have no memory of my original Star Wars experience. I was born in 1980 and had the three movies on VHS. Just kinda always had them in my life. I do vaguely remember seeing Return of the Jedi in the theater with my mom. It was probably in 84 on a second run.

Nothing will ever compare to being 10 years old and seeing Revenge of the Sith for the first time. Not even the boomers who went to see the very first film in 1977!

Born in 80 and it would have been the early 90’s before I saw any of them on VHS, both the VCR and tape would have been rentals at that time.

This is when I first saw it. I was amazed. I saw it 3 times in theatre.
I had all the action figures. Even a mail ordered Boba Fett that actually fired the rocket.

I think in the 70's, my dad made a bit more than other families in our neighborhood. As such, it was pretty easy for my parents to get babysitters... I was 8, a girl down the street was the ripe mature age of 12 or 13. My mom sent us to go see movies a number of times, which I'm sure Mary appreciated
. Not just Star Wars, there was Smokey and the Bandit, Close Encounters, etc.
Want to say Star Wars was at Cortana Cinema 3 (outside the main mall) on some matinee. It was still daylight afterwards, I remember Mary laughing and saying stop spazzing out - I'd gone inside and changed into a white shirt and found a vest, and was running everywhere shooting things with a squirt gun. Pretty sure I did that for a week or 2

Well, in the big scheme of things, I can't say it had any particularly big bearing on my life. But, in Shreveport, I saw "Star Wars" on its second week. I remember being surprised at how crowded the theater was, and that almost all the seats were taken. I had to sit with my friends way up on the first row, which I never did, and never wanted to. Up so close, and with such a crowd around, I wasn't really able to relax and enjoy the viewing much at all. About a month later, I went and saw it again, and had a much more pleasant time. Probably six months later, my little sister was wanting to finally see the film, and I went again for a third viewing.
In 1979, I went to a comic convention in Houston, and David Prowse was one of the guests. At a panel event, he mostly showed and talked about his photography hobby, and showed a lot of nature slides he shot. It was sorta dull. James Doohan was also a guest at the convention, and I was a little taken aback that he now had a mustache, and looked less like late-60s Scotty than he did Captain Kangaroo. He was there, as there was a big hubbub about the new "Star Trek" motion picture coming out. I saw that at a theater in Baytown around Christmastime. It was a big bore. I had more fun with the tv-show reruns.
Saw "The Empire Strikes Back" in Port Arthur in 1980. Don't remember much about it. Might have watched it on VHS tape in the early days of video rental stores, but not since. Saw the third film, "Return of the Jedi" at the theater, but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen it since then. Never watched any of the 'Star Wars' stuff that came later.

My first was Empire Strikes Back and I was pretty overwhelmed by the whole thing but loved it.
I had and still have a plastic toy of the garbage bin creature in SW, about palm-size.

Around 20 years ago I was stuck at somebody's house and some people were watching SW '77. I saw about 20m & was absolutely amazed
Amazed at how terrible most of the acting was

The Houston event was it at the Shamrock or the one that's downtown in that place that had the rotating restaurant can't remember the exact name.
I remember seeing a titty at one of those events

Saw it at the drive-in theater in Shreveport. Was hooked and had to have the toys for Christmas. Only they didn’t have the toys ready for that Christmas and my parents weren’t about to buy an empty box with a mail in certificate. I did eventually get them later the next year. Stood in lines that went outside the theater and around the building for both Empire and Jedi.

That particular convention was in downtown Houston. I believe it was called the 'SuperCon,' which was apparently unrelated to the 'HoustonCon,' which I believe had a longer history. I did attend a convention at the Shamrock Hilton a few short years later, though. The main goal of such trips being to buy old golden-age comics and pulp mags.
I'm far less apt to revisit the 'Star Wars' films as I would be the trio of "Flash Gordon" serials (1936, 1938, 1940). The second one, "Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars," being my favorite, even though it lacks Priscilla Lawson's ample bosom from the first serial.

Not sure about the original, but most big movies I saw as a kid were at Bon Marche mall.

TV or the VHS box set of the original trilogy. The good old days.

Same.
I remember having the toys pretty young but don't remember when I saw the movies. Pretty sure I saw ROTJ first.

The first one didn’t even get great reviews at the time. People thought it was mediocre

The original trilogy wasn’t even that great to be honest. Better than the sequel trilogy, but NOT better than the prequel trilogy.

Were you at the theater for the ‘77 film?
