Going to have a day in Rome on a trip in the spring.
We have been before and have done all the mainstays
Vatican
St. Peters
Sistine Chapel
Colosseum
Forum
Trevi Fountain
Spanish Steps

We missed the Pantheon so will catch that, What are some other spots that are worth going?

Forgot to mention we walked the Jewish ghetto area and the ruins there. That was very interesting.

Monte Giancarlo. It's not much, but it's got a good view of the city. There are food/refreshment trucks at the top.

Scala Sancta.

The Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano is a beautiful church. It's the official church parish of the pope. It's also across the street from Scala Sancta.

Galleria Borghese. Beautiful walk through the park to one of my favorite underrated art museums which contains my favorite sculpture in the world: Bernini's Apollo and Daphne.

Borghese might be the ticket, I also saw the Capitoline Museum that looked interesting.

Also anyone give ideas on any good cafes with authentic cooking? We found a couple at Campo di Fiore the last time.
Maybe something in the Borghese or Piazza Popolo area?

If time is a constraint, go with the Borghese. If not, the Capitoline Museum has a broader range of things (esp. older) to see. The back balcony at the Capitoline has a great view of the Roman Forum. I especially dug the original bronze Marcus Aurelius equestrian statue inside the museum.

If you go to the Capitoline, try to swing by to see this "new" statue nearby just created with copies of parts of the original Constantine statue kept in a courtyard of the Capitoline.

Agree with poster above recommending the Capitoline. But if you're going to the Pantheon you should stop by Campo de Fiori which turns into a market place in the morning and sometimes later in the afternoon. Then, you can head over to Trastevere neighborhood which is great.

Art museums can be so sterile; it's a treat for the museum itself to be part of the exhibit/experience.

The life size sculptures of the Apostles are stunning, especially Bartholomew.
