LINK

This will be the 5th franchise sold in the past 3 years. The projected price is in the 4B range. Supposedly Phil Knight is not interested in buying the team anymore.

The team has been owned by the estate since 2018, with his sister as the listed "Governor ". All proceeds go to charity.

Are we next?

Well, Paul Allen is dead.

Gayle is still alive, so seems unlikely until then

And for those keeping track... Todd Graves's net worth estimate just went up to 17 billion

That's up from 9 in one year, which was up from like 2 or something the previous year

He is rapidly expanding his net worth (which obviously is almost all related to Cane's value)

I'm hoping some part of him WANTS to own two teams when the time comes

He died a long time ago. The estate manages the team. The estate also owns the Seahawks and an MLS team. But those aren't for sale, yet. The estate has been liquidating assets for awhile.

You are right though, the way Gayle has it set up it will be in Trust for a maximum of 5 years (I think) to find owners for both teams.

Lauscha/Loomis will string that out as long as possible, then string out the distribution of funds to charity for years

Some pels beat guys have speculated that Gayle is waiting to get the expansion team check before she sells.

Silver is apparently meeting with owners this summer to discuss expansion so hopefully our long nightmare is close to being over

My problem with this is a huge chunk of that net worth isn't liquid. He will have to go in with someone else or some private equity to buy one or both teams.

Zero of these guys pay cash for these teams.

They can be part of a group that owns 51% to be majority owners, and be the front man. They can own 51% outright and the rest be a bunch of people.

They also just leverage their networth and borrow a lot to own them

I've heard that mentioned a few times but it doesn't make any sense to me. If we can estimate what that dollar figure is, she can just add that number to the sale price. If she wants to sell, she's not going to let $300-$500 million stop her.

She is 78 years old. She is not motivated by accumulating wealth. She's already done that. She wants to be adored. She ain't selling. The team ain't moving. Not while she's alive.

From what I understand he really isn’t all that interested in buying a sports franchise but guys with frick you money can always change their mind. Anything is better than Gayle.

It's a pretty solid investment even if you aren't interested in sports

Its likely we are talking several years down the line, 5- 10 years at least, so hopefully he has changed his mind

Wish he would buy the Saints now and let Gayle just focus on the Pelicans.

It’s no secret Gayle prefers the Pelicans over the Saints.

Why would Gayle sell the team? Another lazy fricking post by brain dead Saints/Pels fans who are butthurt.

Gayle is sitting on a money printer whether the team wins or loses. Same for the Saints. They're not going anywhere especially with Loomis written in the succession plans
