But I don't mine them and currently have 3. My question is, can anything be done with the sprouts that pop.up from around the bottom of the tree? I have some that are about 1ft tall.

I hate them close to housing.

No idea about sprouts. I have mulch around mine about 2 ft from the trunk. No sprouts.

Do you mean anything you can do to stop the sprouts? I don't think so but you could cut them and treat them like cuttings to propagate new trees and then give them as gifts to all the haters on here.

I just cut em/pull em and cover the spot with mulch. The ones further away I hit with the mower.

Not like it would take long for 3 trees once a week half the year when they actually sprout.

Crepe Myrtle’s do get a lot of hate…however, there are some in basically every yard. That tells you something….

Did not know this. I love them.

I just break off the sprouts every so often when they get a foot tall or so.

Why hate them? Very pretty, long lasting blooms, pretty fall colors.

But there is not much you can do with the sprouts, other than keep clipping them

Pool owners hate them because they drop flowers and leaves all summer long that clog up your pool filters. If you don't have a pool...they're great!

If they are near the house for gutters, or near a pool, they drop leaves and other shite constantly. I was having to clean my pool skimmer 3-4 times a day b/c it would get clogged full of flowers. Constantly had to treat my pool b/c of the leaves and flowers constantly falling in the pool.

Had to get the metal mesh gutter guards to stop my gutters from clogging every single time it rained.

I have to blow off my courtyard twice a day usually to keep clean b/c of the giant crepe myrtle that is in the center of the courtyard. Beautiful tree and provides ample shade which I love, but man do i hate all the crap it constantly drops.

They are great trees, which is why everyone has them, but they don't belong near the house where they can clog gutters, and they don't belong anywhere near a pool. Anyone who hates crepe myrtles it is because of one or both of those reasons.

I like a single trunk Crepe Myrtle, but you don't often see them.

I have heard that crepe myrtles fight cancer. Don’t know if that’s true.
My uncle used to cut them back and use the limbs to make furniture.

Crepe Myrtle’s are great in the landscape…. Some people just plant them in the wrong spot…. They grow really well in baton rouge

I really like most of them but I’ve seen some varieties that didn’t look great. Wish I knew the specific name of those nice ones.

I used to cut an elderly neighbors yard and she had a few down her driveway. The driveway was stained from the mess they drop.

I have a pool so wouldn’t ever put one in the backyard. But I wouldn’t mind planting a few out front somewhere away from the house or any concrete.

it’s pretty wood. A good friend of mine makes wooden spoons out of crepe myrtle. There’s several ancient ones in my yard that are a never ending supply of seedlings so I have them planted all over. Pretty tree that is well behaved and does extremely well in our climate

Had 3 around my house when I bought it. 1 was right next to the driveway and I had it cut down within a week of moving in. The other 2 are in my backyard and I really like them. Would probably feel different if I had a pool, but I don't mind the mess they make. Just got check the gutters occasionally.
