Rand Paul lost a ton of credibility on this one.

I’m all for free trade.
But that’s not what we had to begin with. That’s why I found Rand’s crying over this stupid.
They aren’t voting for free trade. Just to stop Trump. They aren’t trying to actually fix anything.

Honestly I'm pretty much Rand Paul in as a principle on this subject. And I even used to believe that even if other countries cheated their arse off that the market pressures of free trade would bring them in line. That would also be the Milton Friedman argument and I'm pretty much a Milton Friedman guy
Unfortunately I think the purists including me vastly underestimated the willingness of other nations to completely ignore Market pressures because they don't give a frick about their citizens.
It's kind of like if you just think about prices at home. If I sell pizza and you sell pizza I might be able to undersell you for a little while but eventually the fact that pizza ingredients cost largely the same for similar quality is going to catch up to me.
But if somehow the penalty for selling pizzas for less than it cost me to make them never actually affected me directly I could probably put you out of business quite easily.
And that's kind of where we are with Nations like China and really with a lot of nations in the world.
Am I certain the current approach attempt will overcome this problem? No I'm not. But I have come to the conclusion that doing nothing isn't going to work. China will happily starve half of its Nation to bankrupt us. And even if they aren't successful they can do a whole fricking lot of damage

I’d have more respek for Rand if he would admit failure instead of blurring the lines.
Either way this wasn’t a good look for Rand.

Truthfully, it's too early to reach a conclusion either way. Existing inventories haven't been exhausted yet. When (if) they do and we have supply gaps and how long they could last will matter. If consumers and businesses don't flinch in the face of them and any related price hikes then the gnashing of teeth will have been for nothing other than attempting to rile people up and the conventional wisdom is proven wrong yet again. If consumers and businesses freak out.. shite will get ugly. As a consumer I'm still in wait and see mode and I have no desire to deal with the panic buying BS of 2020 again, that was absolutely absurd. On the business side I know price increases are already here and more are coming as of June 1st for our clients.

Let me know when Rand or Massie or Ron was ever against free trade? I don’t agree with them but they’ve always been consistent.

If people think Paul has credibility, they don’t listen to him closely or long enough.
He is like his father. A contrarian.

Well, according to tonights CNN headline, Trump got lucky and was on the brink of destruction.

It wasn’t free trade to start with you jackass!

Paul is a weasel.
This Trump term has really changed my view of Rand.
I know he's made a career of being the contrarian in Congress, but there have been times when he put his views aside and voted with the party for the lesser of evils. I don't see that now. I see a Rand Paul that's just being a contrarian and trying his best to completely stall his "friend" Donald Trump's agenda.
But in fairness I'm pretty much disillusioned to ALL of Congress at this point. It's an exact repeat of the beginning of his first term. Trump has a GOPe Congress and they're basically fighting him tooth and nail over the littlest things. I remember Trump actually calling Schumer and Pelosi in to work with him because the spineless GOPe went absolutely rogue.
They're all worthless.
But Jesse calling Rand a "panican" to his face, is absolute gold.

What we should do is lower the taxes to 0% for 10 years for anybody who will compete with them in our country.
Now I agree with this line of thought but the issue is taxes aren’t the reason companies can’t compete with China. Chinas corporate tax rate is about the same as ours actually.
The issue here is overburdensome regulation and labor/minimum wage laws. And yes I would support reducing/eliminating those but it’s politically impossible in the real world so you’re only left with Trumps solutions.
Not many disagree with Rand on principle but reality and idealogy don’t necessarily align
