Who remembers keeping up with LSU CWS in baseball in the 80s?

I remember school was out and usually I was out of town on a church trip or something.
I clearly remember being in Gulf Shores on a fishing trip one time and having to grab the local paper to find any reference to the CWS at all.
It was usually on the bottom of the last page of Sports in paragraph form something like:
Can't believe how primitive it was getting LSU news outside of La in the 80s.

radio is all we had for eons well into the 1990s.
you only saw beisbol on TV if we made CWS. a very niche sport.
basketball got way more TV coverage back then

Losing to Stanford on a grand slam still hurts.

I remember keeping up with the world series before LSU was in the conversation.
Seemed like Texas, OSU, USC, Miami, FSU, ASU, and Stanford were in it every year. Occasionally an SEC team such as MSU would make an appearance.
I also remember when ESPN would have a Sunday night match up between one the previously mentioned programs.

I think in 1987 or so, I was sitting in the Bernie Moore stands behind Jackie Sherrill watching the NCAA track championships and listening to the CWS when Ben McDonald gave up the grand slam to Stanford.
(Hope I’m not confusing multiple memories).

Use to watch ESPN back in graduate school at LSU -- 78-80, MSU was the player back then

Crazy 40 years later people bitch about camera angles when LSU play Southeastern on a Tuesday night

We’ve come a long way from barely being able to listen to the CWS on the radio to every single game being televised.

Remember the first CWS Championship win like it was yesterday. Daddy had me painting the house. I was listening to it on the radio and when they won I started hollering and mama thought I had fallen off the ladder.
Good times.

ESPN covered the CWS before LSU ever made it there. LSU made it in 86 and the games were on ESPN. Now any other game on tv during the regular season was an only dream. It was on the radio only.
I watched Miami pull off the “hidden ball trick” at the CWS in the early 80s.

I lived in Denver at the time and all I could catch was WRNO worldwide shortwave. You could catch enough for night games to understand what was going on, but day games—-good luck!
