Rarity of a walk off dropped third strike

Wasn’t able to find enough info at the college level, but according to mlb.com, in Major League Baseball, there has only been one instance of a walk-off dropped third strike and one at the minor league level…
San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (September 30, 2018)
The San Diego Padres secured a 4–3 walk-off win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 10th inning. With one out and a runner on third, pinch-hitter Francisco Mejía struck out on a pitch that eluded the catcher. As the catcher attempted to throw Mejía out at first, the runner from third, Manuel Margot, dashed home and scored the winning run.
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers vs. Burlington Bees (August 10, 2018)
In a Class-A Midwest League game, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were trailing 6–4 in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Batter Nic Pierre struck out on an 0-2 pitch that got past the catcher. As Pierre sprinted to first base, the catcher retrieved the ball and made an errant throw to first, allowing the ball to sail into right field. This misplay enabled all three baserunners to score, resulting in a 7–6 walk-off victory for the Timber Rattlers.
Baseball is crazy man…

the only other one I've ever seen was the guy who posted a video yesterday of an older TCU team doing the same thing. He posted it in the main game thread yesterday I believe. It's a pretty rare play anyway you split it

I posted that one.

I don't even recall LSU safely reaching first on a dropped third strike this season. Has there been another one?

I don't watch college baseball at all, but I'm a huge Phillies fan, and watch 155+ of their games every year.
That being said, that dropped third strike rule is the ABSOLUTE DUMBEST RULE IN ALL OF SPORTS.
Some team will lose the seventh game of the World Series on that bullshite one day, and MLB will drop that rule like a hot frying pan almost immediately after that.

a team already lost a playoff game on a controversial dropped third strike and they didn’t change the rule then.

Even more rare that it was for a 10 run rule I’m sure.

No way in hell they would change a rule over something like this. Baseball is the biggest crybaby sport in the world. Their excuse for not changing to better than game is "That's baseball" The only time they ever change anything is when it effects $

i would say the sports that change rules as a reaction to outcomes they don’t like are the “crybabies”

Without this rule, we might see the catcher playing between 1st & 2nd on 2-strike counts. The umpires won’t be too happy, but nothing in the rules could stop it.

Catcher must have at least one foot inside the catcher's box until the pitcher begins his windup.
so would be really tough to get to that hole in RF quick enough

Not Game 7, but someone’s never heard of Mickey Owen

only one each and they both happened within a less than 2 month span.

That didn't end the game, it only prolonged it and they ended up losing. That was pretty bad though.
That game took place before we had electricity and running water in this country (hyperbole ladies).
Let that happen today to actually END a World Series game. With all the cameras, social media, etc..
That would end that rule. And yes, I understand that baseball, not the NFL was the national sport at that time and they didn't eliminate the rule. They would now though in the hypothetical scenario I've provided.

But a called 3rd strike, walk off and 10 run rule Trifecta is the gift that keeps on giving.
That may be the only one ever, to date.

no it wouldn’t.
it’s the rule, has always been the rule.
don’t want to lose a game like that?
catch the fricking ball.
this was in the ALCS and very televised.
hell we not even sure it was a “dropped” ball.
rule still exists.
because baseball, unlike other sports doesn’t cave and placate whiny fans when they don’t like how a game ended.

Does MLB cave and placate fans that whine and say games take too long or don't have enough offense?
I bet they would never add a pitch clock , DH, or heaven forbid, start a runner on second base in extra innings to reduce game times right?----------- right?
Another thing baseball would never do is limit the number of mound visits or pitcher disengagements from the pitching rubber. We'll never see that happen.
Also those fans that whine about ball and strike calls will never, ever be placated by having MLB use robot umpires.
You make an outstanding point

and all of those changes were the results of years of tossing around ideas.
not because of any one game, like your hypothesis of a World Series game changing a rule would be.
The NFL changed Overtime rules because of the Saints Vikings playoff game.
They changed (and later un-changed) being able to challenge Pass interference due to the Saints Rams playoff game.
Over time, maybe this rule will change, maybe it won't.
But it's a safe bet that if it does change, it won't be because of the result of one game's outcome.
