Who was the best Defensive Coordinator LSU has ever had?

Dave Aranda gets my vote for # 1. He was so good at play calling and would blitz the hell out of offenses. I also thought he was very professional, and carried himself well. A natural leader with integrity that I can respect.

Nick Saban with Will Muschamp was a fun combo

Charlie McClendon was as good as any.

1982 LSU's Defense was seriously good that would been Pete Jenkins' Defense.

I say Saban and Arnsparger were the best defensive minds. As head coaches obviously their DCs did exactly what they directed them to do.

Glad you mentioned him. Limited # of games but he was getting it done with the 2nd team as well.

No love for Chief?

Obviously football moved beyond this time strategically, but goddamn those defenses were fun to watch with the blitz schemes.
Offenses knew it was coming, has no idea from where, and we just said “good luck”

I think an argument could be made for when Saban was here with Muschamp. I think Mclendon was really good too.
Best defense in my opinion though, was the 2011 one. Every player on that defense was an NFL player and even some of the backups were high picks. In fact, go look at that roster. It was close to seeing almost every player on that line being a 1st round pick if Sam didn't get dumb before the draft. Logan was a 2nd I think. Montgomery fell due to character issues but was projected as a 1st. Everyone else was a 1st and even I think Lavar Edwards was a top 3 round pick if I remember right.
The secondary was loaded and even some the backups were picked high.

Carl Reese. We would've been a powerhouse if he only had stayed

The name is Tepper…..Lou Tepper. He forgot more about defensive football than he ever knew, and that’s saying something.

The Drop linebacker and his 5 year defensive scheme installment plan were revolutionary.
