No state income taxes

Lower then average property taxes

Lower sales taxes than Louisiana (around 6.5% on average)

Sioux Falls crime rates much lower than national average

Lower than national average unemployment

Tons of banking and other good white-collar corporate jobs because of favorable tax environment

Better schools than national average

Mostly conservative people despite being a city with over 200,000 people. South Dakota is a very red state even in its biggest city.

What’s not to like?

I’ve been to Sioux Falls once. Cool town overall. No chance in hell I could survive a winter there though.

I once overheard a conversation in Rotolo's. Chick said she'd been in Montana when it was -40, while a guy said he'd been there when it was -75

Never seen those temps, but was in Montana when it was -17°F.. not as terrible as you'd expect.

The downtown area and the falls park are impressive. Nice streets. Lots of parks, hospitals, etc. named Sanford. Mr. Sanford is a billionaire who donated lots of money to area causes, but unfortunately he got caught up in a youthful porn scandal. Some places are rethinking their names.

We were there in May when it was great. Asked a couple of locals what winter was like. One said, “Not gonna lie. It’s brutal.” The other added, “And that wind never stops.”

Great if you want to live far away from woods. Deep in the Great Plains and a long way from any big patch of woods made this area less desirable to me as someone from the South. Hard to explain but the landscape is just boring…

People up there seem genuinely nice.

Good steaks can be found almost anywhere, but all other food sucks.

Winter is brutal.

They have a nice Scheel’s.

(Speaking from experience as someone from South LA that lived up there for ~6 months)

this... i spent 4 years in North Dakota. It's a dry cold (no humidity). and you acclimate quickly. 32 degrees is shorts and a long sleeve t shirt weather. don't get me wrong it does get cold, but it's 100% manageable.

The area between Sioux Falls and chamberlain reminds me a lot of the MS delta, with less trees.

Went there this past weekend and enjoyed the local craft breweries. It seems the winters influence folks to spend a lot of time outside. Tons of things to do if you like outdoor activities.

Nice little city and the people are great.
