Unbelievable craftsmanship. Unbelievable that they built that in only 5 months. That house would withstand a hurricane!

It’ll be interesting to see American carpenters build a Japanese home.

Those tools had some really strong motors in them, small but strong. Really nice tools used throughout.
As for design, it still has the Japanese feel to it in my opinion. It could have benefited from the use of some stone or masonry features. Just something to help breakup all the wood.
I wonder how much that house cost? It would certainly last multiple generations. Larger dimensional lumber used than a normal US style home.
I also wonder about the codes the builder had to meet and if that is why so much hardware and interlocking wood members.
Cool video.

Earthquakes are a primary concern, so they want stability and flexibility at the same time.

Having spent some 25 years of my 58 years framing homes in Louisiana, this is absolutely amazing what they do. Not so much that they seem to go a bit overkill but we go under-kill. Especially these days.

No, I mean traditional Japanese joinery doesn't use nails. It's cool as hell.

It's air tight so it would also withstand a flood.

What's a shame is that house would last 500 years probably but you know some jackwagon will eventually buy it and all that craftmanship will be scratched and abused to hell.

My baw, the Japanese are to woodworking what the Germans are to metallurgy.

The Japanese are masters of joinery work.

When was the last time you saw an American carpenter take out a razor sharp chisel to shave minute layers of wood off a beam used in framing to make it fit just right????
