And why is the answer a horsefly?

quote:

Horseflies are a type of fly that belong to the tabanidae family of insects. The female horsefly depends on blood for nutrition to make eggs. This is because animal blood has a certain protein she needs to develop eggs.

Nothing like trying to enjoy the outdoors during the summer and these frickers come in and act the arse.

Flying insects are probably the most annoying but my least favorite are ticks. They aren't insects but frick them all the same.

Lovebugs can get pretty damn annoying. I would nominate the deer fly over the horse fly. Pretty sure deer flies carry a damn switchblade over something.

If this is the same thing as chiggers, then 100% this.

Little bastards don't even cause problems until a week later, then everything is on fire.

Not the same thing but chiggers are awful. Chiggers are larval mites.

Helpful tip- Put powdered Sulphur in a sock and knock it around your boots/knees. It'll help keep them off of you when you are walking around. Old-school repellent that works.

I’ve recently heard of this old school trick of Sulphur powder to repel Ticks also. I’ve not tried it yet.

Wouldn't have agreed a couple years ago, but moving out in the country has me coming around.

At least on your mower/tractor moving keeps them away, but a horsefly will attack you at any speed.
