Why haven’t they built a bridge that goes over Metairie Road for the train?
It is a cluster frick every time that train goes by and holds up traffic on that busy two lane road at lunch time.
Just a random thought as I sit here waiting for the train to go by….

Where would you build a bridge and approaches - not much spare land in that area?

The train bridges in NOLA keep the train at normal elevation. The cars go sub surface to pass under it.

They haven’t done this because it creates a flooding problem. Check out the Marconi underpass after a big shower.

Money.
But also because the businesses at that location would fight this project politically.
But that problem has been around for many decades. One guy (Barkerding) was annoyed over excessive delays and parked his old car over the track and walked away. Turned into a mess and he got charged. The RR was not thrilled over the publicity showing that they were violating the time and length limits. The new DA (Mamoulides) did a nol pros and the driver was something of a folk hero for a while. Was a fun event for the rest of us.

It used to bother me. Now i have the traffic cameras saved on my phone before crossing there or at central I'll check my phone for a train. Then if there is one i adjust my route.

People that live in old Metairie clearly like being inconvenienced

Apparently, it’s a thing

Link? That may help Mrs. Viking. She crosses at Little Farms multiple times per day.

Thanks, Sir

You've watched too many episodes of "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeanie".

Bridges don't just magically appear if someone wiggles their nose or crosses their arms and bobs their head.

You're talking a years long project needing to acquire the amount of land needed, relocation of businesses and that is before the construction can even begin.

You think that train is a PITA, think about how much inconvenience that type construction will offer the public.

Someone ought to develop a real-time traffic app with realtime alerts like bridge and train closures when even Waze is too slow.

They supposedly have one for the Old Metairie crossings.
The main complaint I see is not the trains crossing, it’s when they stop and sit for long periods of time. Politicians at all levels have tried to make changes, but the railroads can tell them to fck off.

The more money you make, the less you have to worry about to-the-minute deadlines (like a train making you wait) and things of that nature. You make others wait

Let’s complain about something that hasn’t changed in at least 60 years

And of course find a way to blame New Orleans

It is the Metairie way

You forgot the years long studies for each of those steps. This state loves some studies.

Yep. Just look no further than Baton Rouge with the need for a 2nd bridge over the Miss. River. How many years of studies have already been done and still no bridge?
