They used them to treat some burns in WW2. The patients said it was terrible. The maggots did not hurt but they could feel them moving inside the wound and it was enough to drive them almost insane.

No, but Scruffy’s seen leeches used before. On injuries with severe vascular damage, such as a degloving injury (look it up if not squeamish), it is used to remove the distal blood and prevent clotting until the vasculature heals.

That isn’t exactly a definitive reason to use maggots.

They consume dead flesh and are used as a last resort when other options have failed. If you have necrotic, dead flesh, you need to go to a fricking hospital.

This fricking message board…

Man, if only some Scottish scientist had played with mold a hundred years ago and discovered something that helped treat infections.

Oh well. Carry on with the baby flies.

Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have knocked her up.

I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe.

I was not offended.

For I knew I had to rise above it all, or drown in my own shite.

Because you tried to make a joke while not knowing, maggots and leaches are already approved for medical use.

Many larger hospitals have sterile ones on hand.

There is your “actually” response for the day.

If I were avoiding going to a doctor, I think I'd research medical grade honey before maggots.

This is not medical advice.

They are used in cancer therapy, although not commonly, as an ancillary method to improve wounds that aren’t healing and to decontaminate.

Apparently, there are also studies showing their use as a treatment of melanoma and breast cancer.
