So you got 30 teams that play 162 games in a season why the hell can’t I just turn on my tv in prime time and see a baseball game I don’t care who is playing just some baseball

It’s terrible. They want me to pay $100 to watch the Rangers play in Dallas. There’s been several nights where I would’ve turned the game on because I had nothing else to watch, but I couldn’t.

It’s a disgrace really

There’s a reason most 30-50 yr olds grew up Braves or Cubs fans. Because they were always on tv.

Yeah, I get MLB TV every year because the national coverage really is atrocious, especially compared to football and basketball.

MLB is dead

And it killed itself

There should be games on local antenna tv, cable stations, YouTube, And everywhere else. For free.

No one under 30 in this country gives a damn about MLB, aside from the markets of the teams.

Instead of marketing their very boring sport, They’ve made it as difficult as possible for the few fans they have left to watch games.

Now, young people hate baseball and the casual fans just don’t care anymore.

I get MLB tv as well, its a no brainer. It actually pisses me off when a game is on national coverage because i would much rather listen to GKR than listen to some jackass from ESPN or Fox.

Manfred hates baseball as much as Goodell detests football.

While some observers have raised concerns about MLB's long-term viability, recent data indicates that the league is experiencing a resurgence, particularly in attendance and revenue. MLB's recent initiatives, such as rule changes designed to speed up games and investments in younger fanbases, have contributed to this positive trend.

Key indicators of growth:

Attendance:
MLB has seen a significant increase in attendance, with 2024 marking the highest attendance in seven years. The league has experienced back-to-back attendance gains for the first time since 2011-12.

Revenue:
MLB's revenue has reached record highs, with the 2024 season surpassing $12 billion.

Viewership:
Ratings for MLB games, including the World Series, have also improved, with the 2024 World Series being the most-watched in recent years.

Youth Participation:
Baseball participation nationwide has reached its highest level since 2008, with a significant increase in casual participation.

Rule Changes:
The implementation of new rules, such as the pitch clock, has helped to improve the pace of games, which is often cited as a deterrent for some fans.

Overall, the evidence suggests that MLB is not in a state of decline, but rather experiencing a period of growth and revitalization. While challenges remain, the league's recent efforts to address those challenges and the positive trends in attendance, revenue, and viewership indicate a promising future for baseball.

Baseball is a regional sport - and that goes for college baseball and MLB.

It has been for decades now.

Teams now make money through attendance and their local tv deals. The Dodgers make $334 million a year off their tv contract for example.

Baseball fans pretty much just watch their local or favorite team. I watch LSU pretty much whenever they are on but I have no interest in watching any other college baseball game not involving LSU....none.

Similarly, I'm a Cub fan, and I'll watch over 100 Cub games a year but I'm probably not watching a full total of 9 innings of any other games not involving the Cubs all year.

Baseball is just never going to IMHO ever again be a national sport in the sense that the Football is where folks just tune in to watch any game. But that doesn't mean it's dead or dying it's just consumed differently.

I do wish they would end this stupid blackout nonsense though. That's actually beyond stupid.

I paid the $100 You're paying like $.60 per baseball game. That's a pretty good deal.

exactly. baseball participation at the youth level is at all time high yet the dumbasses of the MSB will tell you its a dead sport, yet every single metric says otherwise

now the black out shite is dumb af. Sorry but I shouldnt have astros games blacked out in Lake Charles on a damn weeknight. Its not feasible for 99% of people to drive 2 hours to the game on a weeknight. if they want to blackout weekends....fine....i still think its dumb AF and costing them money but i get it atleast.

The local bars in/around Atlanta can't even play the Braves games anymore.

I've just settled for listening to Ben Ingram and ole Joe Simpson/Darren O'Day on 680 the Fan.

When I was a kid, I could watch all 9 innings of any baseball game on TV. Didn't matter who was playing. We had satellite back then and even caught some AAA games. As I got older, I only watched the MLB playoffs. Now, I can't even sit through an entire game.

About as stupid as comparing 8 years playing to TV coverage accessibility. Titles such as oldest sport and past time don’t mean much today when you look at World Series TV ratings

I’d be paying like $10 per baseball game and it’s more about the principle than the money. The stars stream on Victory for free. I’ll find something else to do
