In my daughter’s public speaking class this morning, the black woman that she befriended earlier in the semester went off on the teacher. Apparently said black woman got a 50k grant for classes at this community college. She didn’t do her speech when she was supposed to give it last week and the teacher didn’t allow her to do it today because she already had other work for the class. Apparently different teams of students had to break down the MLK ‘I have a dream speech’ on different topics. For example my daughter and another girl were to break down metaphors he used. Another timid white girl had to go over a section where MLK used the term ‘negro’ repeatedly. So as the little white girl was going over ‘who was his audience’ she said ‘negro’ several times. Well this black girl goes off and almost goes to blows with the white girl, at which the teacher has to step in and confront her. The black girl is cussing and yelling that she(whitegirl) was offending her and using the n-word. She left the class and went to the dean to lodge a complaint against this teacher. So now the teacher will be in trouble at this lib community college.

I'm glad I was not the little white girl. Many blacks are looking for a way to start something. I wonder if the teacher could have left that part of the speech out.
