Benson Boone dumbfounded Coachella crowd didn’t know Brian May

During his Friday debut at the Southern California music festival, the rising 22-year-old pop star delivered an epic rendition of the rock band’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
When it came time for the song’s featured guitar solo, 77-year-old May rose up from out of the stage to perform it. In an attempt to get the crowd going, Boone announced: “Brian May, everybody!” However, he was met with a muted reaction, as it appeared that many in the crowd did not recognize May.
quote:
In a recreation of Friday’s events on TikTok, the “Beautiful Things” singer can be seen standing in his kitchen, holding a banana as a makeshift microphone. As he mouths the lyrics to the 1975 hit, he looks forward in anticipation of what he expects to be an uproarious welcome for May.
After realizing he’s not getting the response he wanted, he lifts his hands up in frustration. He then puts a hand to his ear and signals for the crowd to cheer louder, before crossing his arms in annoyance, tossing the banana and walking away.
The video was overlayed with the text: “Me trying to get the crowd at Coachella to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he has on music and THE WORLD.”

Crowd full of 20-something influencers is probably the wrong group to expect Brian May recognition.

Probably all too high to notice much of anything.

Reminds me of when everyone was wondering why some old dude was singing with Kanye at the Grammys.
The old dude was Paul McCartney.

I know Brian May, of course. Who the hell is Benson Boone?

Ok, so another Adam Lambert. I've watched some of Adam's performances with Queen and I wasn't impressed. Boone any better?

I didn't see it, but from the article it appears this was just a one off Queen performance.

the only reason i know who Brian May, is because he found every camera possible when the Queen movie came out.

Music festivals suck for music fans.

Like the young guy I worked with who asked me 'What was Woodstock?"

Unfortunate byproduct of the passage of time, but not surprised.
On another note, speaking of Benson Boone...I already hated his "Beautiful Things" song from overexposure....and now it's on the BMW commercial that is inescapable....

Dude needs to start pimping this. It's overdue for a comeback.

The kind of people who attend festivals like Coachella are likely some of the most vapid people around.

This song is kinda catchy

The boombers attacking BB in this thread are absurd. Here you have a kid who is basically self-made and brings a ton of energy to his live shows going out of his way to show respect and pay tribute to one of the all time legendary acts...and you shite on him.
He went to a lot of trouble to re-create the Queen stage from the late 70s/early 80s. It's not his fault if idiots in the crowd didn't know who Brian May was.
100% chance Freddie would approve of this performance.

How did you know? You're pretty swift.

I'll never understand the pride people have in sort of "disallowing" any new artists (i.e. ones that weren't "in" when they were 13-25 or whatever) as legit.
You are the ones who were complaining about The Beatles' hair in 1964, completely oblivious to the revolution going on around you.

Calm down dude, I was just making a light-hearted comment about the guy that my daughter is obsessed with. Good grief.
