You’ll just get shot going to and from your car.

Shouldnt have to be this way.

You couldn't do this if you tried. People arrive from every direction. Stopping them to search their vehicles and persons would be against the law. We do have lawful right to carry in this state. There is no one entrance to an open festival. Traffic is already backed up and anything to impede traffic would be a cluster.

Agreed. Let’s get more community funding in our festivals. Educational programs. Metal detectors. Reduced tickets. A gun buy tent, perhaps?

Many festivals have entrance gates and charge an admission fee. If they don't, then they should have them.

Especially at strawberry fest with where the festival grounds are located.
Let’s be honest. There’s a reason this keeps happening at the same spot with the same demographic and why people are expanding away from that area into downtown.

No, the outdoor festivals with problems need better organization and management.
Greedy promoters have festivals outdoors where a reasonable capacity is 500-1000. Yet, they will sell unlimited tickets, often 2000-4000 tickets. Then, problems occur. Insufficient food, poor admission control (e.g. everyone comes in from every direction), weak security, parking on public property or the property of others, etc.
The organizers try to rake in every cent and make no effort to spend a cut of that money to keep the event safe and properly running.

This and some profiling honestly would get the job done. People just want to go and have fun but are very aware of the trends

The downvoter doesn't know shite.
Grand Cane, La: "Trial ride" gets a promoter who turns it into a hip hop/.car show/whatever festival. 5000k to 8000k show up (depending on whose numbers you use). Promoter makes big money at $20-$30 a pop. But, parking capacity was for about 250 cars. So, they parked in the town of Grand Cane, even in driveways. The roads had cars up and down the shoulder and in some cases in the road. People shite in people's yards due to the lack of restrooms. Shots fired. It was a huge shitshow that has repeated itself.
Greedy "get all the money you can" promoters are a big problem..

Picked the wrong continent for labor several centuries ago. Louisiana needs more than metal detectors, unfortunately

New Iberia Spanish Featival, 15 yo just shot and killed a 14 yo. It’s always the same group.
Let’s stop blaming the events. The promoters did not force the 15 yo to have a gun.

I know another way these shootings could be avoided.

Haven't gone to a festival in at least ten years. It is just not worth dealing with the horrible people, not just the possibly dangerous ones.

Crazy how none of the New Orleans festivals have had a shooting yet

Louisiana needs a purge.

I was out at French Quarter Festival yesterday with one of my kids and was amazed at how life’s trashy people of any kind were there.
Now I admit we were there earlier in the day, but we bounced around from the US mint to Jackson Square and then along the river to the aquarium. On way back we walked Royal street.
Not thugs and only smelled weed twice.
Same crowd as poboy festival and others I go to that are open to general public.

Funny how there were no shootings at Rock the country in Livingston. I wonder why? Must have been the music distracted them….

Just make the entry fee $5. That will be enough to keep out thugs. The TJ Ribs in Baton Rouge was offering 99 cent margaritas and it got out of hand. They bumped up the price to $1.99 and it solved the problem and kept out thugs.
