Will these possibly have a resurgence with the current fragmentation of streaming services and inescapable advertising within said streaming services?

I would love a local mom and pop video store with a brick oven pizza place attached to pick out a few (older) movies and supreme pizza for a nice Friday night in at the house.

The issue is that most people don't have a dvd player or a VHS player.

They're relatively cheap through Amazon and I see that Wal-Mart has a blu-ray player for $44 and a DVD player for $27.88. VHS would probably be a lot tougher to find and considerably more expensive.

You can get them at any goodwill for 5 bucks.

VHS, sure. But I would very confidently bet that "most" people still own a DVD player. Even if they don't use it much, they're still around.

I get that people are sick of one new service after another after another to where now when you "ditch cable" you still have to subsribe to like 8 different platforms. I get it. But even with all that being the case, you can still just click a button your remote and rent a movie (ad free!) for like $5. I jsut can't envision enough of a market for video rentals to overcome that.

I'm aware that they are not hard to find and I actually have a blueray/DVD player in my living room, but the fact is that people would have to go to a store, buy some hardware, then go to the video store and then return the movie when they are done.

OR

They can click a button on their couch.

I would love a blockbuster like store to exist but I don't think it would ever be more than a novelty and it would struggle to stay open.

I have an idea: Start a company where you pay a single subscription each month and you get access to all the streaming platforms. We could separate these platforms into different channels.

Absolutely. Would I make it a regular part of my routine? I'm not sure that I would.

Video stores were a better option than paying for 30 streaming services that still don’t have anything you want to watch.

I think there is definitely a demand for people who don't have a lot of streaming or watch much tv. The supply part may be difficult as the store would need a bunch of dvd's and a license to rent. My brother's relatively small town in Montana had one that was still popular a few years ago; don't know if it is still in business. It would also work well in a vacation rental spot where rentals don't have streaming but do have a dvd player.

You're still eating physical pizzas?

I have three.

They are either in boxes or in storage. But I did break one out a few weeks ago and ran through a couple of old tapes (that I didn’t have on DVD). Quality was…..poor.

Pretty much any computer or video game console is compatible to watch a DVD or Blu-ray and they are dirt cheap to obtain. This is non sense

Amazon on demand has a HUGE library of films from every era and genre at around $2-4 a rental and Prime has the best library of classic films of all the streaming services.

With no late or rewind fees.

I often think of random movies from 40 years ago which i never heard of again. 19 out of 20 times i can find it on Amazon.

I don't know how a brick and mortar competes with that without charging $1000 a rental to the 3 guys who walk in to opt for physical over digital.
