Recently started working out again after being stagnant for years. Didn’t really ramp up and just jumped into a pretty tough program.

The day after a chest and tricep day, my triceps were unbearably sore. Limited movement, constant pain. It got worse two days after, which I expected, and remained on day 3 & 4. I just attributed it to not lifting in a while. Then came the general exhaustion, lack of appetite, and cola colored urine. Miserable…

Went to the doc… got an IV, drank nearly 3 gallons of water and started getting better the next day

A week removed my arms still feel very week, can barely do a push up.

Anybody deal with this? How long before you regained strength? I read weeks to months, but hope that is not the case.

Why?
What are your objectives?

I don't understand why people train like a bodybuilders instead of athletes.
Most peoples objectives align much more athletically than bodybuilding.

Athletes train whole body or at least upper lower split.

No.
It's real.
It's diagnosed via blood test.
Basically, they go way too high in volume.
It's seen in CrossFit a lot.

Damn, I would have freaked out!

Honestly, it sounds like some pretty serious shite. I am suprised I never got that back years ago when I used to work out like a maniac.

More plates more dates, foo. Can't be interrupting the weekly max sessions wasting energy on the other half of the body.

BTW I agree with you and though I disagree with a lot of their methods the core idea of functional strength in Cross Fit is very on point for the vast majority of people.

If you got Rhabdo from 1 workout in the gym you have bigger problems

You came to the wrong place.

Most people here skip arm day.

But you will get answers from skinny fat guys that think they are Ron Coleman.

Objectives… just get stronger, gain some muscle mass, loose some weight, metabolic health, all of the other benefits that I understand of lifting.

This came after a leg day and a day before a back and back/biceps day. Never thought it was a problem to isolate different groups on different days.

Really wasn’t moving big weight, just high rep sets.

What would be a better way to “train like an athlete”?

Yes. Mowing and drank damned near a case of water. Went to piss and it burned like FIRE.

Ended up doing bags of fluids.

I now hydrate days in advance of really pushing it outside.

My piss was brown.

Ill kill a case of Gatorade zero, a case of carbonated water, and a shite ton of limeade on a heavy weekend.

Bunch of people in this thread completely misunderstanding Rhabdo. No joke, it’s a serious medical condition that can lead to kidney failure and potentially death. Generally caused by extreme exertion coupled with dehydration OR over hydration with water only and a resultant electrolyte imbalance.

You see it a lot in Selection type courses (military or law enforcement) where they have candidates running and doing exercises for extended periods. Lactic acid builds up and the body starts burning muscle. Kidneys can’t process the waste and fail which leads to a cascade of issues. It’s no joke. LA State Police Academy had an incident several years ago where some dumb arse instructors nuked a class for some perceived frick up and three dudes ended up hospitalized. Two on ventilators. People got reassigned / demoted over that one.

You have to be a pretty serious dummy if you did that to yourself in the gym.

I would guess you are taking supplements and maybe started taking them weeks before you actually began to work out?

Yes!! Absolutely the worst pain I've ever been in!

I developed it in my shoulders after a 12-hour surgery where I was tightly strapped to the table in an awkward position. I ended up staying in the hospital 2 extra days because of it.

Drank more water than I thought I could ever hold to get my levels back up and was finally released.
