SOUND ON. You’re hearing the first howl of a dire wolf in over 10,000 years. Meet Romulus and Remus—the world’s first de-extinct animals, born on October 1, 2024.
The dire wolf has been extinct for over 10,000 years. These two wolves were brought back from extinction using genetic edits derived from a complete dire wolf genome, meticulously reconstructed by Colossal from ancient DNA found in fossils dating back 11,500 and 72,000 years. This moment marks not only a milestone for us as a company but also a leap forward for science, conservation, and humanity. From the beginning, our goal has been clear: “To revolutionize history and be the first company to use CRISPR technology successfully in the de-extinction of previously lost species.” By achieving this, we continue to push forward our broader mission on—accepting humanity’s duty to restore Earth to a healthier state.
But this isn’t just our moment—it’s one for science, our planet, and humankind. All of which we love and are passionate about. Now, close your eyes and listen to that howl once more. Think about what this means for all of us.

What are the odds? These things have been extinct for 10,000 years and then brought back twice on the same day.

Need to release them into the Everglades to combat the python problem.

Cool, I've always wanted a sabretooth wabbit!

I didn't see anything on the first 6 pages, so I regret nothing.

Can packs of Dire Wolves get released in Portland and Seattle?

What happens if all of their predictions about how these should look turn out to be wrong?

We should be so lucky.
I'd pay to see a pack of these monsters roam the campus at Berkeley.

There's a pretty famous set of illustrations that indicate how wrong we'd be if we tried recreating extant species based on their skeletal data alone. I'll see if I can find it.

Great now we are getting ready to see T-Rex, Pterodactyls. We already have Neanderthals acting like democrats. Fishing just went away for me as 50 ft Mega’s and crocs will be just to hungry out there

Primitive wolves were very nocturnal. Your pet wolf is going to be awake and howling all night and sleeping all day. Your neighbors might have an issue.

yeah cause nothing can go wrong with a lab grown wolf that is bigger and stronger than what we currently have.
I believe this is the beginning of a Stephen King novel

Fully-grown American Husky next to Grey Wolf. The step up from the grey to the Dire Wolf is similar in scale. It'd be approximately the size of a pony.

This is not wise. Be very careful what you bring back; you may resurrect a Frankenstein.
