So the goal is "zero tariff" and not "bringing manufacturing jobs back" or "funding the government with tariffs"?

That would result in lower prices on goods manufactured in Vietnam…

I don't understand why all of these countries care about US tariffs. It's just a tax on our own citizens. /End sarcasm.

Other countries removing their tariffs changes the cost benefit analysis on manufacturing over seas. I wouldn't expect a lawyer to understand that.

The biggest key to bringing back manufacturing jobs is reducing or better yet eliminating government regulations.

They should also hire all women for these new jobs since they are cheaper. /More sarcasm

no way there can be multiple goals that apply differently to different countries

Is this where you use the lawyer technique of playing stupid to make a point?

polluting the board = perfect model of how lawyers pollute society at large

It’s like you’re immune to the truth.

I know you’re a super educated gotcha lawyer and none of us can ever be on your level, but the tariff goal CAN BE BOTH.

It’s to stopped getting fricked by the rest of the world AND to promote American Manufacturing and job growth.

In less than 6 months of all you idiots will be eating a massive crow pie.

We can always just continue the Biden status quo though, we were headed in the perfect direction

Other countries removing their tariffs will have no effect. Avoiding the tariffs is only one reason the US exported manufacturing and not the primary one.

Unless other countries removing their tariffs will somehow cause the cost of labor and facilities and construction and regulation to rise in those countries, it won't have any effect at all.

Otherwise, how would you explain the outflow of manufacturing following NAFTA?

All of the above. The goal is to renegotiate more favorable terms with willing trade partners. The goal is to see who wants to cooperate with the US and who doesn’t. The goal is to manufacture more goods domestically. The goal is to drive industrial investment domestically, and incentivize the purchase of domestic rather than imported goods. The goal is to increase revenues from imports and decrease revenues from taxing citizens.

This isn’t hard to understand.

What part of reciprocal don’t you understand? For someone who claims to be the smartest man in the room you should know how this works. Money saved by not paying tariffs to other countries pays down the national debt. Companies that moved their factories to foreign countries because of the stupidity of NAFTA, and cheap labor will be penalized for taking those jobs from Americans. Here’s the incentive for moving back to the country that built you.

I’m just a high school graduate country boy with a masters degree in life lessons. So if you need educated on anything else just let me know.

Not all overseas manufacturing is bad. Who cares where toys and trinkets are made? We can’t build or staff factories like that.

We should never have allowed heavy industry, medical, and tech to offshore.
