Nastiest divorce situations you've seen.

A good friend of mine (Black) was married to a woman we all tried to talk him out of marrying (White) because she was notorious for being shady. She traveled for work and had a full on affair with a guy in Michigan (White).
Got pregnant and had to tell our friend because there was a possibility her baby wouldn’t be his. In Kentucky, you can’t divorce a pregnant woman so he was stuck with her until she had the baby. Temporarily moved in with his Mom. And sure enough the baby was white and clearly not his via paternity test.
She initially tried to refuse the paternity test, pushed for alimony, and tried to take him for everything he had. Thankfully he had a good lawyer but it took FOREVER because she tried to drag out the process.
I’m legitimately surprised she didn’t end up dead.

I knew a guy that got the marital home in the divorce. A couple of weeks after the divorce was finalized, he took their son out of town for the weekend to a football game. Ex-wife knew he would be gone all weekend with their son. When he returned home on Sunday afternoon, ex-wife refused to meet him at the house and wanted him to bring their son to her mom's house. After he got home, opened the door, the smell of gasoline about knocked him down.
He had left the kitchen window unlocked as a safety net in case he locked himself out of the house, as he typically did when the ex still lived there. She knew it was unlocked & went in while he was gone then proceeded to pour gasoline in multiple rooms of the home. Guy called the cops and fire department. Cops could find no signs of forcible entry, no suspects, case still unsolved. Ex-wife got off scott free.

It's insane that there needs to be a law.
If we lived in a halfway decent society, it would never even occur to a woman to get knocked up by another man or for a man to divorce his pregnant wife.

Most of the furniture was ruined so he trashed it. Hired a professional service to clean the carpets and get the gas smell out. Sold the house well below market value making a small profit that he had to split with the ex-wife as written in the divorce decree (hence why he sold it super cheap).

Lawyers play a really dirty trick on their clients by stoking up the emotions so that people who used to love each spend thousands of dollars in profit for the lawyers fighting it out. The most amicable divorces I have seen were settled without getting attorneys involved. Lawyers are right there with car salesmen as far as being slimy and disgusting people go.

Having been involved in hundreds of divorces over the years, I could go on for days.
The first thing I tried to tell clients is that divorce is likely the largest financial transaction of your life. Others, particularly your soon to be spouse will try to make it an emotional ordeal to gain a financial advantage. This is a business deal and you need to treat it that way.
Having said that…
Husband is client, he owns a profitable small business and works at home in the evenings. A large portion of the business records are in his home office.
He agreed to move out of the marital home while the proceedings were ongoing, but he needed his business records.
The home design was such that you walked through the front door, through the den into the kitchen with the pool visible out back of the kitchen.
Wife tells husband she has the business records for him to come pick up, front door will be unlocked.
Husband goes to house; gets most of the way through the den and sees his business records floating in the pool.
He rushes out toward the pool.
Wife is crouched down behind the kitchen cabinets; as he enters the kitchen she hits him in the knee with a steel bar shattering his knee.
Case went downhill from there.

These stories make me realize I got off pretty easy compared to some. Mine just took everything, every single fork, spoon, utensil........everything.

Best friend knew his wife was cheating on him and before he told her that he knew, he consulted a divorce attorney.
They tracked and documented this for months, all the while he acted like everything was fine. GPS on her car, photos, etc.

Mine was really simple since there were no children involved. I had a feeling she was cheating and when I found out it was true, I asked for a divorce. She didn't want at first but eventually realized that it wasn't working so we separated, sold the house, each got half and moved on.
