Saints' Derek Carr sought a trade early in 2025 offseason

The New Orleans Saints restructured Derek Carr's contract this offseason, all but ensuring the quarterback will remain with the team through the 2025 season. That doesn't mean all is well between the two sides. Carr sought a trade before reworking his deal, according to NewOrleans.Football, and his relationship with the Saints remains "tenuous at best" as the club scouts potential quarterbacks of the future.
This comes weeks after previous reports indicated Carr had interest in exploring his value on the open market, though the Saints apparently had no desire to release or trade the veteran. In turn, Carr publicly admitted he would be unwilling to take a pay cut, and the two sides ultimately agreed to redo his four-year, $150 million deal, pushing tens of millions into future seasons.

Regardless, the Saints are "very much in the quarterback business," per Nick Underhill, especially as it pertains to the draft. This is perhaps why Carr still feels as if he's on shaky ground, despite the contract.
Publicly at least, the Saints are content with Carr as their expected 2025 starter. New head coach Kellen Moore, who was initially evasive of questions about Carr's contract status, said prior to free agency he feels "really good" about the former longtime Raiders starter leading the Saints' offense next season.
"We want him here," Moore said, "and it'll be a good situation."

He would’ve been embarrassed

All but guarantees he won't be the starter come 2026 which I'm fine with.
It was a trial. It didn't work. We gotta move on and next year we can.
Draft well, we can live with the results and find a new Qb next year and find a viable vet to guide us til then

We now understand why Carr was butthurt & nowhere to be found in Nola during Super Bowl week.

Shocker. He's a bitch.
At least we finally get the entire story instead of the little rumblings.

I am no fan of Carr but why do you say he is a bitch? He wants his money, I would to. He knows that he isn't wanted by the fanbase and tried to get a trade but no one would bite.

Great news!

definitely adds up.
We've heard KM talk about speaking to Carr but not vice versa.
Carr officially lost me even in victory. The whole "shoutout to DA for help building this thing" after the win over the Falcons (after DA was fired) and I was fricking done. I can see it from a loyalty angle but even that is a reach.

I’d tell Carr we are paying him to stay home. I don’t want that negativity in the locker room especially when it’s coming from the QB.

Also, NB4 Chad & Bone come in & go to war.

I think Carr thinks of his self as a top tier quarterback when in reality he’s only a step ahead of Daniel Jones. This is basically another 4 to 5 win team at best next season with Derrick at the helm

Carr is going to win too many games for us to get someone good, but not enough to even approach.500

He will be 35 by this time next offseason. His career will basically be over then because he's gonna have problems finding a suitor. It's why he & his agent couldn't manufacture a trade before the start of the league year.

Carr got a nice fat check up front as a bonus for his restructure. $10 million dollars worth.

That is still around a Top 10 pick.
look at the last few seasons and records of teams.
The NFL is a horrible product in that it's really top heavy and then just mediocre/ shitty

Based on his history, Carr will get hurt at some point & miss several games.

Yall give this dude a bad rap. He was basically throwing to dudes off the street while repeatedly being gang raped by any defense with a pulse behind that O-Line. I’d want out too. That’s not a winning combination. Throw in the fan criticism and ML front office decisions and it’s not like him taking a team friendly contract was fixing anything.
Those first two weeks last year before the injuries started were works of beauty by the team. So that’s the peak. I’d say that would be good enough for a deep playoff run. Then the wheels fell off.

Carr has been in the league 10 seasons. There's been plenty enough time to judge him. He's mostly an average QB who can go hot or cold. He isn't consistent enough to ever be a winner in the NFL. So no, no one is giving Carr a bad rap. His play & attitude throughout his career has accomplished that on its own.

Carr has been on garbage teams his whole career. It reminds me of Archie Manning with the SAints the team and management sucked.Having said that I don’t like the way DC leads and showing his lack of leadership by not being in N.O during SB week.He definitely needs to go.

If you need a perfect team around you than you aren't a very good QB. I don't care what his numbers say.
There have been QBs in the history of the league that make it work. I can't wait till he is gone mostly so we don't have to see all these people take up for a career loser.
