If the Saints do trade up to #1….

And draft Cam Ward, then I’ll be convinced that this team is not serious about winning. That will show me that the main concern is selling tickets/generating hype/making money.
Any serious football person knows the following to be true:
1. We have lots of holes up and down our roster.
2. Can Ward could become a slightly above average QB if he is drafted into a supportive situation ( we are not). He is not a franchise rescuer. If he comes to the Saints it will be like Darnold to the Jets or Bryce Young to the Panthers.
3. Trading the picks to get Ward will make us non competitive for at least 5 years

The Saints have been non competitive for the last five years, why not keep that trend going?

I’m not a professional scout, neither are you. But let’s be serious here. This guy DEFINITELY has the physical traits, so from a “potential” perspective it comes down to the mental. And while you may think you’re some genius people reader, this is something that really can only come from interviews, conversations and talking to people who have been around him
As a normal person who likes scouting, I also don’t think that he’s some world beater future HOF Qb, but if the team thinks he is then I support their desire to go get him.

Insane in the membrane

Ward has the potential to be a very good NFL quarterback, but I wouldn’t give up assets to move up in the draft for him.

Last year, maybe a handful of posters here liked nix. We're hardly great scouts as a group.

Nix was def being trashed by everyone and has proved all the idiots wrong.
Another reason why Ive been saying, teams are hiding who they like, and we really dont know how much or how little Dart/Sanders/Ewers/Milroe are being valued.
Pennix/Nix were predicted 2nd/3rd and they went in the top 15 picks last year.

They’re selling out with Carr, Winston, Dalton. Trading up for Ward disrupts all the bullshite complacency we are accustomed to
This current model is taking you absolutely nowhere

they need to stay the gotdamn course and use every single pick

What are you basing this on? The guy has shown to be a relentless worker and has serious arm talent. This is simply your opinion.

I’d argue that continuing to ride declining players at the end of their career would be more indicative of this. Drafting ward would turn over the apple cart and show we’re moving hard in another direction.

Most poster on this forum are convinced this team is not serious about winning and nothing will change their minds.
It's just a classic love hate relationship.

I've said this before but if you're moving up and giving up a lot for a QB, you have to have one of 2 avenues to help him succeed:
1) An already talented young roster that needs a QB (nope)
or
2) A bunch of cap space to add talent because you no longer have draft picks to do so (nope)
Saints have neither.
You're setting your rookie up for disaster.

oh bunchie, you still acting like saints don't have cap space to add talent and the fact that a starting rookie qb's contract for 4 more years wouldn't help fast track the cap situation and the cap space available in the future to fill these holes needed with the cap space that would have been spent on continuing to pay a veteran starting qb 40 million a year with a continuation of can kicking.

They don't, not in the capacity I am talking about.
You will not have 1st and 2nd round picks for 2 years, probably other picks, plus a good young player.
See: this year and last year. They have made moves in FA but have not added a substantial amount of talent to make up for poor drafting, let alone giving up that many picks.

its all for nothing if you never have your qb.
we had foskey as a 2nd round pick. oh my, what would we do without him all this time.
just saying, the hyperbole filled opinions are off the deep end. same people giving these opinions will be same people crying about derek carr in 6 months and whining why we ain't got no qb next year when we're drafting pick 14 and thought that if we passed up the opportunity this year that we can just draft arch or nuss next year.

I mean you prove my point. The Saints being terrible at drafting is why we can't do it, not why we can.

I'm not sold on any QB in this draft being a game changer but I'm not a scout.
If you're really a Saints fan than you know how they operate. The Saints have not drafted a QB in the 1st round in 53 years. That's no longer a coincidence. Agree or disagree about the direction Loomis takes the team, but one thing can not be denied, he makes things happen when no one thinks it can happen. Lack of draft picks or cap space will not prevent him from making moves.
Also, the offensive coordinators son who is a QB is playing just up the road and will be set to enter the 2026 NFL draft. Say what you want but it's on the minds of the people on Airline drive.

If it was they would be approaching this year as a bottom out year and clearing cap, acquiring young talent in the draft etc
But they are trying to be mediocre
