The human pursuit of art and beauty being sanitized and replaced with cold robotic precision and calculation is not something I think should be celebrated.

We are blindly activating the hyperdrive forward to a realm we don’t even begin to understand. Sci-fi dystopia will be a reality before we know it. I hope I’m dead before the inevitable authoritarian takeover. At some point there will be so many people without jobs or happiness that some charismatic jackass will rise up promising them a better life if they just give the government supreme control.

It won’t be long before it’s impossible to tell what’s fake or real on the internet. I hope everyone has been building legitimate human connection in your community because the times ahead are going to be insane.

I disagree with the first two paragraphs of your post, but the last part - we're already there:

I've been following this internet whore for a few months that I never questioned if she was AI generated, but then yesterday I noticed that she's followed by a few clear AI generated accounts and now I can't stop asking if she's real or not.

Will artists (including singers, authors, filmmakers, painters, etc) even exist in 50 years? If so, why? What will distinguish their work?

You're that creep talking to yourself in the comments hoping she is real and responds to you.

Yes

If so, why?

Since the dawn of time humans are innately drawn to creating art and finding beauty.

quote:

What will distinguish their work?

Live performances and active real life consumer engagement.

A significant portion of the population takes everything on their Twitter feed at face value already. We get what we deserve, I guess.

Sci-Fi world has firmly begun.

Zero Point Energy devices will change everything. Power your house, your flying cars and change it all.

We just have to survive violent changes in society from here to the next 5 years.

LOL. "It" never happens as fast or as disruptively as everyone imagines. Robots were supposed to be doing all manual labor by the 1980's. Synthesizers capable of generating their own music were the first of many innovations that were supposed to put performing artists out of business. CAD was and CAE was supposed to be the end of engineering. Ad infinitum.

Some industries, like buggy whip makers and manual drafting board makers, go away or get winnowed down to an elite few. Other new enterprises that embrace change and use it to their advantage grow and thrive. Learn to use AI, learn to work with it. Adapt. Change. Overcome. It's what humans have always done.

And before one of you keyboard warriors sneers that I am naive, you should know that I have spent most of a lifetime studying technology disruptions since becoming fascinated by it as an undergrad engineer nearly half a century ago, and I have founded or mentored more than a dozen companies that had varying degrees of disruptive technologies and ideas. AI is not going to put all of you out of work. It will put those who don't adapt into a lower societal class.

While the whole AI thing is evolving and we are just not beginning to explore the implications moving forward... I agree with this..

However.. I cling to the right to change my mind at a later date...

The act of creating and the parasocial relationships that fans/consumers form with the creators.

Of course, authenticating art will be its own art form.

Capitalism has done a lot of great things. But it’s killing the artful side of humanity. Or maybe distributing it to everyone? I guess you could say that if the artist is no longer respected as a profession because AI can do it, then everyone becomes a respectable artists for engaging in the act of creating, no matter the quality because it’s sale value is nil.
