Except for maybe Yesterday, this song has been covered more than any other song. The "Louie Louie Wars" were a series of radio marathons featuring the song "Louie Louie", with KFJC and KALX (Berkeley) competing to play the most versions, culminating in KFJC's 300-version marathon hosted by the song's author, Richard Berry.

Not sure how many songs I know of that have been covered 10X of more. I guess the National Anthem, God Bless America, and Amazing Grace.

"Angel from Montgomery" by John Prine has been covered more than 10 times.
It's weird how back in the day, they would cover songs immediately, where it seems today people mostly cover older songs that have been out of circulation a while.
"Angel from Montgomery" was covered 4 times in the 3 years after its release.

Death Letter by Son House. This White Stripes cover is incredible, including a little taste of another blues classic, John the Revelator, thrown in for good measure.
