Why can't you cheer on both the basketball team and the recruits? I remember being in the student section back when early doucet was in the crowd. We chanted his name as well as cheered on the tigers.

IF they announced they were in attendance, I would cheer for them. However, I'm not going go crazy over a 17-18 year old kid that might or might not attend LSU. I'm not going to scan the crowd with my binoculars trying to catch a glimpse of them.

Do we really care so little about basketball that we would chant for football recruits while we should be cheering for our basketball team???

It's not that LSU fans don't care about basketball, it's just that all they care about is a WINNER. Look at Florida for instance, they support the hell out of their team since Billy D has taken over. Look at Tennessee, their fans show up in droves now that Bruce has them on the map. Before Skip arrived on campus, LSU baseball was an afterthought, and basketball was much bigger. IF LSU Basketball would win consistently, it would be a much higher priority amongst LSU fans. I don't remember people packing Alex Box when Smoke was fielding some bad teams. Bottomline: IF you WIN, they will come.

Well I agree with that. Early was standing about ten yards from me and everyone in the student section noticed and chanted his name. But I do believe everyone was there for the basketball game and not early doucet. I think this weekend will be the same.

My Dad told me stories about how at the basketball games they would bring in the football recruits and the crowd would go nuts. He said the look on these kids faces was priceless and that a good majority of them came to LSU afterwards. Whoever said it is retarded obviously doesn't know shite about recruiting as this is a very valuable recruiting process. Why else would they bring them to the game?

Also, I'm obviously going to the game, and I'm going to also cheer my arse off. However, I'm going to be cheering on guys like Temple, Mitchell, Johnson, etc that have busted their tails for this University over the last 3-4 years. These 17-18 year old recruits are getting plenty of attention elsewhere and this game should be about BASKETBALL.

That's basically what I meant in my previous post. I think it's insulting to the basketball team to use the game as a forum to kiss football recruits' asses.

Dandy Don was referring to start chanting the players names or whatever during like halftime. It would be disrespectful to cheer for the recruits while the game is goin on.

How is that insulting to the basketball team? Do you think they really care? They will be happy that there is a hyped up crowd cheering for LSU

You really think that is the reason why they chose LSU? A nice crowd chanting their name can't hurt, but there are other more important reasons why they choose to come to LSU.

Lap dances don't hurt, either.

but I don't think that's how the basketball attendees view it. I think they are there for the game. And given the nature of this game I have to believe the fans will cheer for the tigers. They will also cheer on the recruits as well. I don't see how this is an issue.

WildBill and SenorPablo...I hope you're right about the fans supporting the team. I would just hate for all the attention to be given to people who may or may not come to LSU while the team representing the school are an afterthought.

I will watch the game and hope the crowd is hyped up for the game. Showing love for the recruits isn't a bad thing if it's done with respect to the team playing the game.

Not sad to use basketball game for recruiting football prospects. virtually every team in the country does it.

I have no problem cheering on recruits as well as the basketball team. However, if you only chant the names of a couple of recruits, do you not alienate the others?

No. That is not true at all. Of course the only reason why they came to LSU is because they cheered for them at the basketball game.

My post was meant to say that it helped in the recruiting process not that they came to LSU based only on what happened in the bball game. I am sorry that I did not spell that out for you.

I dont understand why everyone is bitching about this soo much? People will go to the game to support the basketball team. You can cheer the ENTIRE game for the baseketball team. How is it harmful to start a 30 sec chant for some recruits that will be there, which will help the most important sport at LSU, which is football?

I believe that the Randle family would be very impressed if the fans would chat Rueben, Rueben several times during the game.

These guys hear that everywhere they go. It'll be no different at the PMAC, and likely have no bearing on where they choose to enroll.

Doubtful a basketball crowd will sway a football player's decision one way or the other. These guys already know all about LSU football. If that's not enough, then so be it.

What a dumb idea.
