quote:

Wilson equated the political climate today to that of the 1970s, saying, “We were kind of embarrassed at that time to call ourselves American because of the dirty politics of the Vietnam War.”

The Barracuda singer went on to say, “To be as subtle as possible, it’s more embarrassing now.”

Breitbart

Never the biggest Heart fan but Ann Wilson was GOAT female rock vocalist. And now, farewell Heart and . . . MAGA

Washed up has been. She should go on one of those gay cruises with Rosie O’Donnell.

Trump told her to try to understand that he’s a magic man.

Yet another white woman in disarray.

The sisters sold out the band moving away from rocking out to cash in on 80s power ballads. Not surprised they would also sell out America to virtue signal.

Name 10 good ones throughout history. That were also prolific.

Stevie Nicks
Bonnie Raitt
Lucinda Williams

????

ETA: Bonnie and Lucinda are on the cusp of “rock”. Maybe Linda Rhondstad if you consider that “rock music”.

Donna Jean Godchaux was good with Grateful Dead, but is that “rock music” and she was not lead on any songs.

I never understood why Nixon got the brunt of Vietnam. It was Johnson who got us into the war and under him we had the largest number of casualties (1968). We got out in the 70’s and I get it was not pretty.

I was not alive at that time so maybe I am missing something.

Stevie Nicks

I was thinking that. But was she rock or pop or both?

Linda Ronstadt
Patti Smith
The Honkettes
Abba
Olivia Newton-John
Gretchen Wilson (country but her cover of Barracuda gets her on the list)

Best I can come up with not including the aforementioned Ann Wilson.

Fleetwood Mac was both, which was the flavor at the time. Stevie launched her own career and the duets with Don Henley (70s rock legend) and Tom Petty helped solidify her solo career.

We can argue the “rock sound” all day. But she’s a rock singer.

I guess we also need to define “prolific” and “rock singer”.

Janis was fantastic. Short lived.

This wasn't about Heart's music. I included the blurb about Ann in the OP to show I wasn't predisposed to insult them. Now I couldn't care less about them.

She needs to find another country to live out her years - one she's not embarrassed to be in.

God bless America!

Nixon sabotaged the peace negotiations leading up to the 68 election so he could take credit for ending the war after he was in office.

Chrissie Hynde is my number one overall best all around female rocker. I really like the pretenders and I still listen to them today.

no she wasn't. She wasn't even a vocalist. She was a guitarist who sang sometimes.

Good ones listed already.

A couple current ones:

Amy Lee (Evanescence)
Hayley Williams (Paramore)
Lzzy Hale (Halestorm; questionable addition, but huge name right now in the rock genre)

The first two are about as close to “voice of a generation” as female rockers get.
