Vacation with six month old recs

You can rent a house in Alabama on a lake somewhere and maybe make it in 4 hours. Let me guess, the 4 hour limit is to get an outlet for the wife to pump, isn't it?

Maybe get a condo on the beach in AL? It sounds like an exploratory trip where y'all are trying to figure out if it's doable or not (you can get away with a lot more than you think.) Anything in particular you're interested in?

Anywhere you can drive to is going to be pretty hot by May, which will probably make your wife miserable. You might as well fly to Denver or Nashville or anywhere that's direct from MSY and seek slightly cooler temps (there are TSA exemptions for milk/formulas, etc.) Mainland Honduras has direct flights now! (j/k, do not do that.)

I know you said drive but if flying isn't cost prohibitive flying with a baby that old is probably the easiest it gets until the kid is about 3/4 years old.

People are scared of flying at that age and don't realize until it's too late that's it's not bad at all.

Now that I think of it the times I drove far with my kids was probably the worst experiences.

Except that doesn't work with first time moms. It's funny how much they change after the first one.

Biloxi would be good and it's less than 2 hours away. Beach and Casino's. Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola Beach, Navarre Beach and Destin are within your 4 hour time frame as well.

I'd go with Gulf Shores or Orange Beach in Alabama. Super easy drive from New Orleans, nice beaches, and plenty of family-friendly spots. Rent a condo so you have space for the baby, and stick to early mornings or evenings for beach time to avoid the heat. The Wharf has some good strolling areas, and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is small but fun.

My suggestion is... DON'T.

Everyone thinks they need to get away but with a baby that young and with a mom who can't separate from the baby, it's not a vacation, it is parenting in a different location without half the stuff you need.

Just throw money in a bucket and set it afire.

We flew to Tampa/Treasure Island for a large family vacation when our first was 6 months old (maybe closer to 7 or 8) It was lesd than 20 of us so it helped to have others watch her. Beaches are very easy to have a baby join but you would need to watch them so they don't injest sand and shite. Super sensitive skin to bright summer sun. You might be better off going to a beachfront condo/hotel with a pool and buying the adjustable infant floatie that has a sun shade on it.

We made it a point to take our child with us wherever it was appropriate to do so. She flew on maybe 10 different planes before turning 2 and only cried one time because she had an ear infection.

Biloxi has a children's museum that may be a little older for a six month old, but i would suggest adding that to your local search in cities you intend to research visiting.
