Anybody use the inside ear canal ones?
Is there a difference between the $2000 ones and $300 ones besides the names.
Yes I just turned 50. I'm old

You pay for what you get. Most of the over the counter ones are just “amplifiers” and not a hearing aid. Go see an Audiologist and get professionally fit. I know several people that wasted money on the cheap stuff before getting the real ones.
Best of luck.

Inside the ear canal hearing aids, from my understanding, are meant for people who don't have substantial hearing loss. A hearing test will help you determine the severity of your hearing loss.
The advantage of inside the ear canal hearing aids is that they are hardly noticeable. But I also think that we live in a society today where that doesn't matter as much, because many people either have the phone up to their ear or have an Airpod-like device in their ears.

Get a pair of AirPod Pros, they have a hearing aid feature.

There’s a difference but if you have mild hearing loss, the extra cost might not be worth it

Generally, the difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones is what they amplify. Cheap ones amplify all sound coming into your ear. Expensive ones only amplify the frequencies that your hearing test shows are dropping out. If you have a hearing loss in only a narrow band of frequencies and you get a cheap one, it will make everything louder, including the frequencies you need, But since it's also amplifying the frequencies you don't need amplification on, the sound will be muffled, and it won't be as effective.
Get a hearing test, and get the hearing aid that will amplify only the frequencies you need. It's possible you need all frequencies amplified, so you could get away with a cheap one, but that's not likely.

about 10 years ago the wife started asking for hearing aids. First pair I bought her were from Harbor freight for 15 bucks. Next was a pair of hunting ear muffs with sound amplification for 35 bucks.
I am currently trying out a pair of apple pro. Set up is complicated, instructions included are woefuly inadequate. Had to you tube instruction

I have worn hearing aids for 19 years. I have owned several pairs and types. I have owned in the ear, behind the ear and I also own Apple Air Pros with the hearing aid feature.
By far, the behind the ear with the little wire that goes to a tiny speaker inside the ear are the best, and I cannot emphasize enough, it’s by a wide margin.
I have the rechargeable high end ones made by Phonak. They are very good. You can hardly tell you are wearing anything. I have also owned those by Siemens, and Re-Sound.
The prices are falling fast and the quality is increasing fast.
The ones I had in the ear would slip out, get moist and you could feel them at all times.
The Apple Air Pod Pro is simply a second rate solution. Not nearly the quality and they should be forced to stop advertising them as a hearing aid alternative.

I’m 83, and just started using hearing aids four years ago. I have bought the $4000 kind, but I am now using the AirPod two as a Hearing Aid and at $300. It works better.
