Nothing like a little poltical theater that will result in nothing, but what the hell I guess!

quote:

West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey isn’t happy the Mountaineers’ men’s basketball team missed out on the NCAA tournament.

Morrisey held a press conference on Monday reading from a podium that read "National Corrupt Athletic Association." He announced that he has asked state Attorney General John McCuskey to open an investigation into the NCAA selection committee to find out whether any "backdoor deals" were made.

“West Virginia deserved to be in the NCAA tournament," Morrisey said. "This is a miscarriage of justice, and robbery at the highest level.”

A whole lot of crying for a team that was 19-13 & just lost to a 14-20 Colorado.

They’re bitching about UNC, while they should be complaining about teams like 20-12 Vandy & 21-11 Xavier.

UNC is an easy target given their AD connection as the Chair of the selection committee. Not saying that’s right or wrong but the optics of that are bad.

WVU should have been in the field, but the governor doing this is just dumb and embarrassing.

20 wins is typically a threshold for NCAAT teams, right?

19-15 Texas was one of the last four in, but they beat two Q1 teams in their conference tourney.

If it was between those two, I wouldn’t pick WVU after their loss to CU

Asinine. When subjectivity in sports can bring forth govt sponsored investigations then sports are done. And if the investigation actually yielded proof of collusion or bid buying then it's for sure.

I think the state of West Virginia has bigger problems to worry about… like opioids.

UNC won 2 games in their tourney.
They have 1 bad loss.

They’re 36 in NET, 33 on KenPom.
That’s not WVU’s argument. There are plenty of other team’s they could go at.

I hope he also launches an investigation into why West Virginia opted of the post.

What do you have when 32 West Virginians are in the same room?

No. Baylor is in with 18 wins. Texas with 19. Who you beat and where you beat them (i,e away from home) are the two biggest metrics (though not the only ones).

Agreed 1000%

UNC has TWO wins over tournament teams (American and UCLA). WVU has four (Gonzaga, Kansas, Arizona, Iowa St.). UNC was 1-12 vs. Q1 competition. WVU was 6-10. WVU had a stronger SOS (26) compared to UNC (42). The only real "pros" for UNC were a stronger NC SOS and a slightly better record away from home. But what good is a stronger SOS if you don't win any of the games? UNC's argument is essentially "we played several good teams kind of close."

Also agreed.

Did he start the press conference off with the Boone county mating call?

A decade ago I think I'd be all for something like this. But man am I sick of political grand standing.

And let this be a reminder if you've forgotten, Kenpom and the NET have ruled this sport for the last decade and will continue to do so. Baseball fans claim nerds have ruined the sport, but not like college basketball.

West Va didn't deserve squat. The Big 12 ratings are always phony/fluffed-up. The only team of note they bat OOC was Gonzaga and they were an AQ who would have been bubble at best. They are counting wins over Cincinnati as "quad 1." It's ridiculous.

More so their lack of wins against quality opponents.

1-12 in Quad 1 SOS games.

So they're being rewarded for playing a tough schedule; who cares if you lose all of them but 1?
