The only sensible explanation is that he's waiting for McMahan's buyout to drop. There's no reason to keep him. He had an opportunity to build the team in his image and it has been a catastrophic failure. I will personally admit I defended him at the beginning of the season, but I'm so fricking sick of his mediocrity.

Edit: failure, not mediocrity. Mediocrity would've had us in the tournament this year.

Is the theory that Dale Brown was worried about WW eclipsing his LSU basketball legacy valid? Is that why Dale Brown cried to Dick Vital about WW to accelerate WW's firing?

You didn’t have to open a thread that contained the names Woodward, Dale Brown and Collis Temple. What did you think the topic was going to address?

They don't care about McMahon at all. They cared about WW eclipsing Brown's LSU basketball legacy so they worked behind the scenes to destroy WW at LSU...at least that's the theory.

The scar left behind is deep.

I believe it's about a million and a half less to buy him out next year vs this year. It's pretty obvious what's taking place. You could pay the $7.5M to buy him out this year, throw a little more on top of that to buy out others from his staff, and then have to go in and hire a whole new staff.

Or, you could spend around the same amount of money that his buyout would cost and invest in the roster and see what he can do with actual talent around him. If it fails, then he's gone next offseason.

I think it's considerably smarter to take the chance now and see what he can do with investment rather than hiring a new coach and being in the same position as this year.

Question is CMM/staff capable of actually getting those type of players to sign ?

Pretty sure his buyout isn’t due at once so it’s not a 8M hit.

Then again Scott has made some terrible contracts

For me, that's a bigger question than if he could actually coach them once they get here. I think more highly of him as a coach than most do here, but it would take a hell of a recruiting pitch (or check) to get me here if I was a top prospect.

The buyout doesn’t hit at once and becomes less if he coaches elsewhere. Also, the lack of take my is overstated, wasn’t his recruiting class ranked in the top 1/2 of the league?
