A senior Justice Department official claims she was fired after she refused a Trump administration request to restore Mel Gibson's gun rights when he was appointed ambassador to Hollywood.

Gibson is not legally permitted to carry guns after he pleaded no contest to battering his former girlfriend in 2011. Domestic violence offenders are barred from owning weapons.

Elizabeth Oyer, the Justice Department's former pardon attorney, was told Gibson's lawyers reached out to Trump Justice Department pick Emil Bove, arguing for his gun rights to be restored, the New York Times reported.

She was told to 'add Mel Gibson to a memo' she had been working on with her team for more than a fortnight, assessing candidates 'worthy of consideration' to have their gun rights restored.

But Oyer said recommending Gibson would go against her principles - in part because of his conviction, but also because she had not been given adequate time to assess his claim.

Good. Her opinions do not override the mandates of her superiors.

Then rather than being fired, a person of real integrity would’ve resigned.

Didn’t comply with superior orders and got fired. Shocking!

No time to assess the claim? That’s a BS excuse.

1st... how long does DV usually preclude one from having weapons? 2011 is over a decade ago.

2nd... fortnight? really? who says that?

He pleaded no contest and ended up not even having to pay the bitch because she went on Howard stern and ran her mouth.

He admitted to slapping her in order to restrain her from allegedly “shaking [their baby] Lucia back and forth,” Gibson said in a sworn declaration at the time.

Maybe Mel just needs Trump to adopt him as a son so he can pardon the charge since pardoning away a son's firearm charges seems to be acceptable.

Does she have an opinion on criminal illegal aliens raping and killing women and children during her term at the DOJ?

As Musk pointed out in his interview with Kudlow, 92% of federal bureaucrats are dems.

This is what happens when AI is generating the story. There are a number of terms that AI uses frequently that are no longer common that make it easy to spot AI content. The interesting thing will be to see if those terms suddenly start to become commonly used again.
