With the Tariffs in full swing and the price of lumber going up that is imported from Canada .
The order is designed to cut trees on Federal reserve land the problem there is not enough saw mills in operation and will take years to put in operation there is not even a long range plain .
The Conservative, environmental groups are up in arms about this .

Ehhhhh.....Biden himself ignored his own administration's new guidelines on logging on Fed land. In fact, by the time he left office he had completely reversed the decision, and logging on Fed land had ramped up significantly.
I don't particularly care for the move, having seen what many of these logging operations leave behind. A better approach may have been to remove the convoluted carbon offsets our government gives to lumber companies and encourage them to log their own land. The claim coming from the Trump admin that this move will also help with wildfire prevention is also dubious at best given what I mentioned before......the mess these logging companies leave when they're done. It could actually very well, and likely will, exacerbate wildfires in the years to come.
Anyway, this isn't a marked change from what the Biden administration was doing despite implementing regulations to curtail the logging. That doesn't stop the outcry against the Trump administration, however.

Trees are renewable resources. What's the big deal?

As a person with a vested interest in timber prices let me tell you that we have been taking it up,the arse from Canada for about 30 years.

I’m not saying it never happens, but that’s a caricature.
Clear cuts usually mean one of two things: The owner wanted the land cleared for other purposes, or the trees were not a forest. They were a crop.
Loggers tend to take seriously their job as stewards of the forests.

we should branch out for other options

I have a couple good friends in the lumber business. They are also ready for this!

It has as much to do with expectation and oversight. If they're allowed to make a mess of it, they will.

I am not aware of this particular executive order but trees are harvested from federal land on a regular basis. I'd be shocked if clear cutting was allowed. I've only ever seen clear cutting on private/corporate land.
3 sides of my property are bordered by the ouachita national forest which is 1.8 million acres of federal land. It is routinely logged for pine and you wouldnt even notice because it is all done with select harvest. Honestly after a harvest the land looks better as the trees are thinned and understory of thorns is gone.
They will harvest 50% of the mature trees. The 50% that remain naturally reseed. Once smaller trees are established the remaining mature timber is cut.
If done properly harvesting federal lands is a win/win. Cheaper timber, jobs, funds for the fed

50- 60 years to grow back I admit yes you have to cut the bad infested trees, stage brush, trash . But now your talking lumber , timber , this is crazy .
