If Schmidt can go out and prove he has the stamina

he has to be in the weekend rotation. Too much talent to not have for six innings a weekend.

No we need him in the pen this year. He could give you a start in Omaha if needed kind of like Hurd did though.

Schmidt will be a really really good pitcher for LSU. But Eyanson, Shores, Ware and Schmidt each had their issues from Saturday on. To me, the rotation should stay as is for now. Only change I would make is Shores to Saturday and Eyanson to Sunday.

I have loved how they’ve onboarded him. He isn’t a weekend starter due to lack of “stamina”, either.

I expect Jay will use Schmidt like he used Kade Anderson last year.
Midweek starter for first half of season then reassess.
Jay has a plan for developing freshman pitchers and doesn't want to throw them in the fire of an SEC starter unless no other choice.

The same has been said about several other pitchers on the staff after a strong outing, only for them to pitch inconsistently the next time or two they took the mound. I do hope that Schmidt or someone else develops the consistency to take over weekend spots in the rotation, but it’s way too early to declare that anyone is definitely in or definitely out of the rotation, except maybe Anderson.

Yeah everyone has an opinion on this If these three stick in SEC play I like Shores on Sunday with a chance to win the series if we are tied.
I do say though all 3 have to keep improving for SEC play. I think our starting pitching is not elite right now and our offense and defense will have to win us some games. It’s not to say they can’t improve as the year goes along.

I would use Schmidt as a piggy back long reliever of a weekend starter. Which seems to be what they are prepping him for.
For example, Anderson/Cowan…Eyanson/Ware…Shores/Schmidt. Then use Evans and hopefully Guidry as your 1-2 inning weekend closers.

Lol no
He's not a weekend starter. Has some control problems. He hit 3 tonite i think

No. Keep Eyanson in the middle. It is a good balance of hard thrower/not as hard of a thrower/very hard thrower.

i still don’t think our rotation is set but I think we’re in a great spot finding 3 starters and 2 long relievers/tournament starters between Anderson, Eyanson, Shores, Schmidt and Ware.

Meh, that logic doesnt really make sense. With that said, i have no problem with shores or eyanson or saturday or sunday

I've seen coaches mention that they line their rotation up that way if they can, but it isn't vital.
It really doesn't matter over the long haul anyway because there will be the inevitable rotation shifts due to Thursday games and JJ wanting certain guys to stay on certain rest, while giving others an extra day or whatever

LSU doesn't have 3 much less 2 solid starters right now. Schmidt isn't it yet either he has control problems. Eyanson is definitely not a day 2 guy. He's going to get shelled in SEC play. I think he's going to lose his spot.
All of them going to need to improve a lot as the year goes or it's just going to be same song again this year "pitching isn't as good as I thought it would be".

William is the best pitcher on the team. No questions asked.

To my downvoter, who is better??

We’ll definitely know more in a couple of more weeks. Ware, Cowan and even Benge could all give you quality innings as mid relievers. I don’t expect our starters to make it out of the 6th inning in the first month of league play. Will need quality pitching from our relievers. Still haven’t seen Gavin Guidry but everything I’m seeing from Evans makes me feel confident about our first 3 sec series. I still think we’ll need Gavin Guidry back given his experience.

I think Kade Anderson is better right now.
