It’s hard to watch Curiel without thinking of Duplantis…

Obviously this is high praise for someone who has yet to face SEC pitching, but it’s hard not to see it.

Lefty, fast, level swinging corner outfielder who just hits from day 1. He can hit it to all fields and has great command of the zone.

As a reminder Duplantis hit .327/.404/.419 with 9 doubles and 39 RBI his Freshman season.

It’ll always be fraught comparing a freshman 14 games in to the all time hit leader, but he sure is fun to watch.

Curiel has more pop than Duplantis did.

Curiel’s approach so far is already superior than Duplantis. Dups was an early in the count hitter (a very good one), but I prefer a guy that can work a count more. Both awesome players.

The only similarity is lefty and skinny.

He’s closer to Duplantise than he is Crewes

Duplantis was second on the team in walks his freshman season. He worked the count well.

While true, he does pretty much everything better than Duplantis did, at this (early) stage in their careers.

Better defender, better arm, better speed, better power, doesn't wear high socks without stirrups, isn't Swedish, etc.

Bregman had way more pop than curiel. The only reason curiel is on campus is because of his lack of power. He’s a 5 HR a year type guy

Debatable. Antoine could haul tail.

Duplantis ran a 6.76 60 in high school and Curiel ran in the 6.5s three years ago. Curiel is fast, has more pop, and was deservedly so a much much higher rated prospect than Duplantis. Duplantis far exceeded expectations. Hopefully Curiel at least lives up to his.

Oddly his freshman year was his most productive year from a walk/OBP standpoint. His sophomore-senior years his OBP was about .050 higher than his average which is more in line with what I meant. He didn’t walk a lot, swung early and often. Not a knock on him necessarily. Great player but Maineri’s teams were more aggressive swinging early in counts. Would have loved to see Dups under the current coaching staff and offensive philosophy.

Duplantis was a hell of a ball player in his own right. A true leader, and man did he have some extremely clutch moments. Represented the University in the best possible way.

One of my favorite players to wear the purple and gold in any sport.

right now, not really. Duplantis hit 12 HRs his last year here. Balls/bats are hotter now than they were then as well.

This all very could change over time and I expect it will, but as of today, no he doesn't have more pop

I mean, literally every one of these is debatable. What Curiel has now that very few freshman have is the discipline and instincts of a veteran.

Careful, some on this board don’t think of Duplantis as a great college player

Anyone who doesn’t think Antoine Duplantis was a good college baseball player is an idiot, respectfully.

But I don’t think anyone thinks that…
