Has anyone gone through or had their children go through TIP (Tolerance Induction Program) at the SoCal Food Allergy Institute? Looking for feedback on what got you there (did you try OIT or any other method) and the results. It’s extremely pricey and not to mention the travel/logistics commitment.

It’s tough watching a child go to birthday parties and not be able to eat cakes or try foods at restaurants.

ETA: anaphylactic to wheat, egg and dairy

Seems like a dumb thing to go into debt over tbh

My cousin did it in Georgia and can now tolerate peanuts.

While I do understand your sentiment - as parents, we all want to give our children the opportunity to have the best possible life free of as much restriction as possible. Severe food allergies are manageable, but can be a tremendous challenge that many parents would gladly pay to get under some means of control.

Not at all in some cases. OP seems like one of those cases.

This is terrible, so sorry. I’d move heaven and Earth to help my children if this was them. I hope you find solutions.

How old is the kid? Our youngest had a pretty bad egg allergy when she was young but she grew out of it by about age 3.

The greatest gift you can give your children is not being a financial burden to them late in your life. Going into debt so they can eat birthday cake is not that. They’ll care about that until they’re 12 and then not give a shite.

Now if they can’t live a normal life, maybe different

I thought you were joking so didn’t respond. No plans to go into debt but thanks for your advice!

Living a normal life I subjective. I would argue that not being able to eat out at a restaurant with your friends or have a family holiday dinner are severe limitations to a normal life

We’re 3 years into the program with 2 to go
It’s a big commitment but worth it
Don’t mind the trip to socal every quarter either
My son is allergic to nuts, eggs, dairy and alot of other things
He’s eating every nut their is now and we’ve started egg yolks
Milk will be the toughest one to get through

It’s a lot of work making all the food he has to eat daily and keeping track of everything

You must not understand the dangers of food allergies.

ETA: I understand you were responding to the bday comment. That's just a sentimental thing but that list of allergens is problematic because avoiding egg and dairy is challenging and downright scary when sending your child to school.

Timbo, would you mind sharing more on your journey? Ex, did you try any treatments before TIP. What got you comfortable with the process? Any surprises (hidden costs)?

If you’d prefer to take this offline, I’d love to email you

Oh hey it’s Mingo with his “I’m a callous piece of shite” internet persona on full display.

To the OP. Kid in my eldest child’s class basically went through the process and can fully tolerate dairy now.

Eggs are a lot more challenging and they’ve struggled getting him to the same level of tolerance. So still keeps an epi pen because of that. Mileage may vary.
