Does anybody on this board think that Putin has ambitious ideas to expand war? I do not think he does. He is having trouble at his border with Ukraine does he really think he can defeat NATO with Nuclear weapons.

Of course not, that’s just propaganda. Like you said, he’s having trouble with Ukraine, how is he going to march through Europe lol?

There is no scenario in which Russia is not obliterated in a nuclear conflict. I am not sure why any country would ever pull that trigger.
You have to worry about the terrorists getting nukes.

Italy and Russian have about the same GDP, he would be stupid to take on NATO even if the US withdrew.

Also why we don't want to back out of NATO

Does Europe seem strong and united?
Are they a real factor in preventing any State from invading Europe?
Do they buy energy from Russia?
Are they on the rise or decline?
This last question is most important to how things play out.
Why is China building islands to extend the borders of its country?
To see who stops them.

What this war has shown, similar to what Chechnya demonstrated, is that Russia is not able to project power into their much weaker neighboring nation effectively. Russia is not a threat to Europe as a whole. They lack the logistical and technological capabilities to fight a major offensive war.
The only threat Russia poses to western Europe is the nuclear threat which only becomes a real option if NATO escalates the war. I don't beleive anyone really thinks Ukraine is worth that.

One thing this showed is Russia is not ready for a big war.

We won't exit NATO, but we won't bankroll them any longer, either.

I think maybe at the beginning he might’ve thought he could take on Europe after Ukraine if he wanted. Now after being in a slugfest with Ukraine for the past 4 years I don’t think he believes he can anymore. One thing this war has definitely shown is that the Russian military isn’t the wolf at Europe's door like has previously been believed.

There is pretty much no chance that Russia could win a protracted war with NATO, nuclear or conventional.
That has been the case for several decades now.

Putin is a boogie man, used by the Euros to get money out of the USA. Putin has zero intentions of invading a NATO country. It would be utter disaster. He'd rather sit back and sell his oil and gas to them.
Forget what the Euros say publicly, there is not a one of them that truly thinks Putin would a NATO country for a land grab. None of them want to pay for their own defense and have been using Russia as a scare tactic to get Big Daddy to pay for their defense and pump US dollars into their economy with all the troop we house there.

They are running out of population to do so for sure. The only reason to keep pushing is because of being backed into that corner

The next likely hot spot is the Baltics. They stand between Russia and the isolated pocket that is Russia's Kaliningrad. They also have Russian minorities of some size and are in process of aggressive de-Russifying their countries.
They are however, NATO members.

This is the way.
They will need us for at least the next 30 years.
They have spent so much time putting down nationalism that there is no patriotic population willing to serve in a major war.
Without the US, Putin would chomp up those tiny Balkan countries, because it is easy.
But in Europe he would go no further, the Poles would prevent any excursion there.

Anyone who thinks Putin would even consider a conventional war with NATO are still stuck in the 80’s and doesn’t comprehend modern and next generation weapons technology. There is no such thing as ground campaigns like WW2 with modern technology. If Putin goes to war with NATO it’s gunna be with nukes which ends badly for the entire planet.
Ukraine is a globalist elite money laundering scheme, it’s not about stopping Russia on a conquest.

Agreed, they need us, but they help our balance sheet vs China
Without us, Putin can bully who he wants.

Putin knows if he uses nukes his life is over in 5 mins. And being a dictator he's having a great life. So, he ain't pushing the button. But, he may want more non NATO countries. If we give up Ukraine what's next?
