Me and 4cubbies went today and we really enjoyed it. We were probably the 1st two customers. Our server was named Chandler and he was really good. I noticed once that my drink was empty but that was no problem as I could see he had about 6 tables and was managing them well. I had the TKO chicken which was delicious. cubbies had the cypress pasta with shrimp that we were both impressed with. Crawfish pie appetizer was great as always. As others have said, the bread pudding was phenomenal. after tip it was 44 bucks. definitely worth it. will be adding this to our regular rotation. keep up the good work opie!

You guys rock my socks with all the great compliments. Thank you!

OK, so I have returned from my Opie's adventure. We got the boudin balls as an appetizer, and we were hungry so my wife got the shrimp/catfish platter, and I got the seafood platter. Everything was great, but my wife, who is sort of a hushpuppy connoisseur, did not like the hushpuppies. I wasn't a fan of them either, but I have a cold so my taste buds aren't quite working right for certain things.
Next time, I want to try something not fried, probably the red fish. Ever since starting this diet 4 months ago, my body doesn't respond well to fried food.
Also, I left you a note on my credit card receipt.

My wife and I live behind Opie's when we are in Baton Rouge. They have a great product and great menu, but a tough location with no parking. Parking is a must in a town like BR. People in this town drive down there driveways to check the mail. If Opie's moved to a location, such as the Broken Egg on O'neil or one of the many locations available in Central, the business could explode. The restaurants on Government are great, but they lack security, parking and traffic counts at night.
Good luck Opie.
Good luck Opie.

grew up in central, looked at buying out cafe roux and changing it up, but honestly, Sammy's is going to OWN out there.

i can deal with parking. just keep serving good food, hiring good servers, and appreciating your customers and you are gonna do fine.

for what it's worth, i wanna buy that building, tear it down, kick out the tenants on both sides, then build further back with plenty of parking

I have a few restaurants in BR. My wife grew up in Central, and I feel it will be a hotbed of business for restaurants. Sammy's will be the spark that begins the larger restaurant boom in that area. Opie, you know it's 20 minutes to eat anywhere out there except fast food.
When I was in school, I lived at Sammy's. I have been gone from BR for 10 years. If I remember correctly, Sammy's had a problem opening other locations. Absolutly nothing wrong with Sammy's, but it take a lot of resources to open multiple locations.

Also, please understand Opie I really enjoy your restaurant. What I am stating is you have the golden ticket, great food and great menu, but I know parking helps in BR.
We had zero parking at our first restaurant in Montana. Three years later we moved to a location with plenty of parking and 30% larger. Our sales doubled the first year and have continued to climb.

No opie, please do not move from mid city. We need all the businesses we can get here. Mid city is on its way back and you are helping. Thanks.

Don't hold that against me.
I googled TJ Ribs one day and TD came up with a bunch of negitive comments about Ribs. I couldn't belive Ribs had let so many people down over the years.
The managers at Ribs are working hard to turn the reputation of bad food and service around. I apologize about any poor experiences in the past.
Thank you to the people who have supported Ribs and Ninfas over the years.
There seems to be quite a few restaurant people on this site. Maybe we can pull out knowledge and resources together to help people and restaurants in need. The restaurant industry has so much to offer outside of the business. As a group, I bet we can do something special.
At Ribs and Ninfas we are starting a round it up fund raiser for The Big Cats of Indiana, where the new Mike is from, to help them feed, groom and house their cats. Imagine if other restaurants joined in how much we could raise. LSU is behind it, and so should other restaurants in the Louisiana area.

How funny. I actually went out to dinner with you a few times when you lived on LSU avenue with Jim. I was dating my ex-wife at the time and you were dating ??.
Glad to hear you are doing well.
