If the government truly wants to cut costs let’s discuss this line item: NASA

Space exploration…. 100’s of Billions of dollars spent on a freaking moon base? Travel to Mars?!?!? Huge waste of tax payer dollars… We cannot afford such ventures with the deficit being what it is… Looking at you Huntsville… self serving interest Elon… those in control simply do not care about your welfare, only lining their pockets via federal corporate handouts that will have no return..

Far more grift and waste in the military budget than NASA

Most would say roads, bridges, water, sewer, electrical grid and other public infrastructure here in the US is much more so…

Sure. But the need to protect, guard, and weaponize space over the century is probably going to be the fastest growing business in the world.

If we can harvest the minerals on asteroids / other planets, the potential for humanity is endless. Space is very important. Its also important for national defense, preventing asteroid collisions, and in the event the DNC is ever successful in starting a nuclear war with Russia I would prefer if humanity did not die out

Don’t they claim we know more about space than our own planet/oceans?

Correct. The moon and mars(except for Elon) is a psyop. It’s about controlling the outer edges.

It will never happen… too costly and unrealistic

Shut your fricking whore mouth! If it wasn't for NASA, we wouldn't have TANG! This country wouldn't be the same if we'd grown up without it!

Private sector is always vastly more efficient than the government doing anything. We learn this over and over and over.
But yall still want to give the government 100’s of billions to do something that a private entity like SpaceX or a competitor can do in a fraction of the time with a fraction of the budget to no coat to the taxpayer?

The grift is real… plenty of elected officials getting greased to vote in favor of this

Thats been said about every major innovation. Technology is advancing at an incredible rate, its hard to imagine where we will be a decade from now from just AI taking off
Have you ever ridden in a Waymo? I was in Scottsdale a few weeks ago and was in one
With that said, NASA does not need to be some massive agency. Investments in space, outside of national defense, should be done primarily through private sector

I’m all for cutting the federal government, by a lot, but we should have oversight into space. We should utilize private sector for outsourcing certain aspects, but I don’t want a private company controlling space weapons, colonization, surveillance, etc. what if they hold it hostage one day from the US….

This. The risk of Kessler Syndrome means there needs to be oversight
But NASA also doesn't need to have a budget close to what it has currently

NASA does all sorts of research and testing for all sorts of organizations, colleges, and businesses. They are much more than just going to space.

Tang, an orange flavored concoction of chemicals and sugars in a powdered form at the store that you mix with water at home.
I wonder if RFK has Tang in his cross hairs for sugar and chemical content.

Satellite technology is important for communications and networks.
EDIT: Someone made a good point about avoiding asteroid collisions. I'll concede that one.
Beyond that...nah.
This is not Star Trek. We're not going where no man has gone before, and even if we did, so what? We're not "colonizing" anything. And even if we did, it wouldn't take but one bomb to destroy an entire Mars colony, and we can't get along well enough here on Earth to prevent that from happening.
As soon as some other country catches up with us and figures out how to get there, the whole thing will be over.
"Space, the final frontier" is a modern day Tower of Babel.
