Lessons from the most recent French & German elections

In both instances, the "centrists" aligned with the socialists/commies to keep the right wing out of power at all costs. To anyone saying we were mean for kicking Romney to the curb, it is clear that it had to happen. The US is the only Western nation to have a truly right wing government currently. "Centrists" when it comes down to it behave the same way the left does. They cannot bear the thought of their big state being whittled down to size

The lesson is that we used to be 10 years behind Europe in terms of being liberal, and they’re now 10 years behind us in terms of moving to the right. The next few elections will be the death of the neo liberal elite in Europe.

I would not be so sure. Their government structure could keep the right wing out for many decades. The "conservatives" in Germany would rather align with the socialists than the AfD, with a "Grand Coalition" - short of winning 50%+ of the vote outright, the right wing parties in Europe will never take office. Because the "centrists" refuse to work with them
Centrists need to be treated like liberals

The “Centrists” can only keep their schtick up for so much longer when such dire situations are playing out all over Europe. Eventually, people will hold their nose and vote for the parties that will actually do something.

You would think so, but we still have Lindsey Graham & Mitch, plus all of the Dan Crenshaws in the house.
The GOP needs to be ruthless in primaries, its not exactly like any of the 3 mentioned above are in swing states/districts. The biggest threat to achieving MAGA goals is the centrist trojan horse, not the left

AfD is somewhat of a paradox to me. While most supporters appear to have views approaching what we’d expect from true American conservatives, there are past associates who appear to have somewhat distorted views of Germany’s Nazi past. I wonder if that’s why the mainstream conservative and centrist parties won’t form a coalition with them.
And, no, I’m not underestimating how weak the modern European is towards views that challenge the prevailing narrative. The entire continent needs to return to a true marketplace of ideas. I just wonder if AfD isn’t the best manifestation of European conservatism, and whether conservative parties in places like Greece and Spain have less baggage than AfD. The conservatism espoused by the Afrodite lady in Greece, for instance, seems to map more closely to American conservatism than what I’ve read on AfD.

There are a couple prominent members of the AfD who are a little to white wash on Hitler for me. But the party as a whole is what is needed.
The problem is that the European right wing parties are largely pathetic. Le Pen's is the most successful, but they are starting to step back from some right wing ideology in order to be more appealing to the masses.

The new German Chancellor Merz already announced that there will be no closing of their borders nor mass deportations.
Germany is fricked.

Yeah, conservatism is basically an endangered species in Europe, so any attempt to revive it needs to be surgical in its policy stance. That’s the only reason I wonder if AfD isn’t the proper party to lead the revival, when there are conservative parties in other European countries who haven’t done things like potentially take too rosy a view towards the Nazi years. When you’re walking a tightrope such as European conservatism currently is, even one misstep is a misstep too many.

Yes, and this is demonstrated in the US with the Texas State Legislature. If they are doing that in Texas, they sure as hell would do it at the national level too.

Germany is going to be at the "Beer Hall Putsch" phase of political turmoil within 2 years.

Trump admin is not really right wing. Unless you feel enforcing borders and tax cuts is what makes you right wing.

Yet we are told the righties are the fascists?
The left is literally tying themselves into pretzels trying to claim right wing fascism = Less government

I still dont get how fascism "right wing". Economically, fascists are nothing close to the conservative MAGA right wing or Rothbardian right-libertarian wing. Fascists want a big powerful state, the right wing wants the state out of our lives

The people AfD appeals to have been told their whole lives that they are evil for being White Germans. They have been taught to be ashamed of their culture and heritage. The "white washing" is simply regaining cultural and ethnic pride. You can't expect people to be proud of who they are by constantly feeling sorry about their worst time in history.
Focus on the good things your country and people have done. Otherwise, you're just playing into the left's hands. They want you to feel ashamed of who you are. Part of not being ashamed is letting go of the past, and that often includes forgetting the bad parts.

being pro-Russia probably hurt AFD.
The real problem is their Parliamentary coalition system. It is designed to keep anything happening at the grassroots level.
