LDWF has a survey on their website solely on the Atchafalaya Basin for fishermen to take. Will be there for 2 weeks .Has a comment section on the bottom once completed.
We need to get as many fishermen as possible to take this survey. Need to let them know how poorly the fishing has been and what our opinion on it is.

They need to stop dumping fish caught on the spillway side on the Stephensville side for tournaments

Catching a 5 lb bass on either side of the spillway seems damn near impossible now

In the 90s when I was growing up it wasn’t a big deal at all

We still can catch numbers when the water levels are right but the fishing ain’t the same

ETA: just finished the survey. We have a camp on Belle River. My main comment in the survey was too many damn bass tournaments with glittery arse boats flying everywhere

Crazy the amount of tournaments now

There's a tournament every weekend from February to November at Doirons. Some states don't allow tournaments for a period of time before and during the spawn.

Larry ain’t gonna tell them boys no! haha

Honestly it’s hard to catch a 5#er anywhere down there last couple years.

18 and 20# stringers were the norm, now 12-14 will get you a win.

Took the survey. Appreciate the heads up. I am a big tournament angler down there and have been for years. Back in the 80s you could catch all the bass you wanted just about anywhere. These days you have to be really really good to do well. East side was actually better before the hurricane hit and killed many fish. In my opinion water flow, silt, and Asian carp have greatly affected the west side. I’d fully support a 12 inch minimum with five limit. Or catch and release. I do not keep bass down there.
I’ll go to verett in April and fill the freezer with catfish. Millions of those things.

Guys , we are getting an opportunity to let WLDF know exactly how we feel about our Atchafalaya Basin. Rare opportunity that we all need to take advantage of . Tell your fishing friends and family members to take the survey and pour your heart out to them in the comments section . We all know the basin needs any and all the help it can get ,
Remember the survey is only on their website for 2 weeks from yesterday.

My biggest issue with the basin now is the lillies make it impossible to fish most areas once the temps rise unless of course you have a surface drive.

Any of y’all have a game warden check you on the water in the basin last few years?
I think that’s one of our biggest problems. When an area gets hot it gets raped.

That's everywhere in the state. Kill, kill, kill, take, take take is pervasive mentality here.

I wish our limits were much more conservative to combat this. Heaven forbid you can take home only 25 sacaulait per person instead of 50 or 5 bass instead of 10.

What could you do in the basin realistically besides limits. The basin , at least in many areas, isn’t even fish able when the water rises. That’s 3-5 months out of the year. That should be more than enough to offset angler pressure.

the “problem” in the bassin is not limits. the problem is water quality (low DO). increased flow = more fish habitat. ever catch a fish in black water?
