Not to be confused with The Americans, this is a nature documentary on the same vein as planet earth. Watched the first episode lasf night andnthe shots are pretty good. Not a huge fan of Hanks anymore but he does ok I guess, he's no Attenborough obviously.

The series was filmed over 180 expeditions and took five years to make.

It reveals the landscapes of the Americas, the only landmass to stretch between both poles.

The series highlights the fragility of the Americas and the secrets of the land.

The series was produced by the BBC Natural History Unit and Universal Television Alternative Studios.

Caught some of it - the HD film or whatever they used was so clear that some of the shots looked like CGI.

The "flying" stingrays were cool.

Excited to check this out. I've seen just about every nature documentary that Attenborough has done as well as some others. I've found a lot of times different docs are reusing the same footage, but just telling a different story with them so it's pretty cool when you see some truly new footage.

Yeah its crazy how clear cameras have become. The bee scenes definitely looked CGI.

I love nature docs but lately they’re just global warming propaganda. Does this fall into that category?

Not as bad as Will Smith narrating Welcome to Earth. Hanks has a whiney voice kind of like Jerry Seinfeld that starts to get annoying especially since we all know about David Attenborogh. Also, screw Tom Hanks.

Like how do they film some of this stuff ??

The tiny bee trying to get into the orchid .. surely the drone camera or whatever would scare the animals right?

It’s not some cameraman holding it steady around with the bee

I’m skeptical how real some of this is

they camp out in camouflage and in blinds for days on end, set up multiple cameras at different angles, use drones, motion sensors. These cameras are ridiculously high tech and quality. Its not easy. Takes a shite ton of patience and focus, and often times luck.

The Mexico episode is insane and beautiful. That cave stuff was like amazing science fiction.

The cave footage was trippy. Amazing the creatures that exist down there.

I like Tom Hanks as he has starred in so many great movies. However, as a narrator on this series, he fails bigly. His ridiculously slow, southern drawl puts me to sleep. He pauses between every word and all I hear is Forrest Gump. Not a good choice IMO.

He doesn't have a southern drawl, he is from the San Fran Bay area, but I agree, he isn't a good choice. Pretty much my only complaint.

Jesus, the one Obama did had great footage but every 3 minutes was about the earth warming etc. We watched a couple episodes and stopped.
