Why should LSU ever play baseball @ in state schools?

For one thing, it allows our fans throughout the state to see the baseball team when they normally wouldn’t be able to see them.

It is a no-lose scenario for LSU. They give local fans a chance to see the Tigers, the games are either pre-SEC or midweek games, the odds of them losing are low, and losing any individual OOC game has little impact on an SEC team. Tulane. UL Laf and La Tech do have good teams periodically or even often so those games are more like good OOC games so still not a bad look for LSU.

Why help out-of-state schools generate money when you can help in-state schools.

That is traditionally how it’s done. Bigger teams sometimes post these games for application from these tiny schools, The bigger teams pay them a fee to entice them to come and play at the larger schools home and covers travels

With that being said, it’s not 1995 anymore. Now if you can’t make it to the Box you can watch on ESPN+.

Plus I’m sure LSU makes more on home games than they used to, which means foregoing one of them for a road game needlessly hurts the budget more

The University of Maine was one of the first D1 programs to officially release its 2022 schedule, and the Black Bears will be chasing a guaranteed appearance fee on the opening weekend when they will play a three-game set at LSU, a team that advanced to the College World Series last spring.

Maine coach Nick Derba scheduled LSU -- an SEC team that won a total of 38 games last season -- for multiple reasons. The first is the guaranteed money. Derba estimates that a host school like LSU typically pays the visiting non-conference opponent between $12,000 and $25,000 for the cost of a weekend visit. The money often offsets at least 80% of the travel and hotel expenses.

It’s $15k for Omaha and $10k for ND State

We pay Nicholls $2k when they come here. Southern was $0 because they have no expenses.

I look at it like this, LSU can and probably should look at most in state opponents as a farm team. With no transfer penalty, having good relationships with these schools gives you an inside track to their over achievers and they may alert you to other school's players on their schedule you should take a look at. I think smart programs will look to enhance their relationships with in state schools for a competitive advantage. It's like in football when O had Louisiana camps and invited all in state schools to crush the remote camps Harbaugh and others were trying to do.
